Guest guest
Hi,My little girl hollie has had surgery to remove ctoma just may this year. Her surgeon isn't ever worried about normal discharge, any sign of blood he told us to get back to him asap.I would try calling your consultants secretary and checking as this would clarify if you need to be seen. Don't bother with your ordinary gp as they don't understand enough.Hope all is ok. Please let us know )Sent from my iPhoneOn 3 Dec 2010, at 22:01, "boopi136" <boopi136@...> wrote: I have had discharge for years which hasn't changed in texture, colour or anything. This afternoon I suddenly felt my ear pop and what felt like the roof of my canal 'shift'! My hearing has got worse and I can feel myself talk/breath through my ear. Sounds odd i know, and its really hard to explain!! Then the discharge just kind of gushed right down my neck, when I cleaned it up it was red blood that looked like it was mixed with the usual colour. Since then my discharge is a brown/reddish colour. I only have minimal pain in my jaw and slight 'creaking' sound in my ear. I have surgery planned on 14th January to try and find what they think is a cholesteatoma hidden in the ear canal. Any ideas what this new blood might mean? I dont hae any plans to see my consultant before my op day and seeing him is really tricky...thanks! Hope your all well

Guest guest
Sounds like your eardrum may have burst. I’m guessing there was an infection for that to happen, but I’m surprised you weren’t in a lot of pain beforehand. I would get in to see your dr. as soon as possible, as you may need antibiotics. Guest guest
Hi, I had the same thing happen in January of 2005 to me. In December of 2004 my ear was draining every single day for the whole month, then on Christmas Eve the entire right side of my face started hurting really bad. I went to the emergency room where they said it was just an infection along with Tinitus. Tinitus is ringing in the ear. They also gave me a number for a ent and the day before my appointment with the ent my right ear started bleeding. The day of my appointment my ear was still bleeding so the ent took a closer look and found Cholesteatoma. I ended up getting it removed in April of 2005 and was told that it was ready to pop or explode or something like that. I still have pain in my right ear most days but with me the Cholesteatoma went misdiagnosed for over 12 years too. My case was a lot different then most. My surgery went fine, it is just nerve damage probably for me. If you do have Cholesteatoma then the only way to get rid of it is with surgery, so if you have it find a good surgeon preferrably one that has done that operation a lot in the past. Good luck to you and I hope you find out and get rid of what is wrong. Happy Holidays too. Guest guest
hiya thank you for your replies! I guess i should have given a brief history of my ear problem.. This Will be my seventh surgery for ctoma related dramatics! This current episode started very typical of all the ctoma symptoms! Its funny you should mention the ear drum busting thing as last year after many infections i was in agony one night when i felt the pressure and pop and was very relieved since the pain went. So full of hope i went back to my ent and said i think its burst my ear drum. He looked and said no your fine its just an outer ear infection. So many antibiotics, ct scan and investigative surgery later they still couldn't work out why it wouldnt clear. So finally in September i by chance got talking to a new doc and persuaded him to review it. Anyway finally they found a hole in the ear canal which they think is hiding a ctoma. I dont think anyone Will know till after my op. I Will be relieved to find out myself! Anyway i am hoping that this new discharge doesnt indicate any thing too serious!
