Guest guest
I must say this post dissapoints me very much. I was to the understanding that this group was setup to discuss issues relating to dwarfism. I did not join here to see other lp's exploiting themselves. I personally don't care what others do. If you want to market yourselves in that realm then put it on the dwarf entertainment list. > > Just a reminder to everyone, according to Fox.com, on Thursday, > September 18, 2008, 3 talent from Shortywood Productions will be > appearing/playing on Fox's new game show " Hole in the Wall " . Guest guest
I THOROUGHLY agree, Jim. It is so sad to see people not only embarrass themselves in front of millions of people, but also put a shadow on the rest of us. But to advertise this self exploitation on the dwarfism site seems to add insult to injury. Marcia -- Re: September 18, Little People on FOX!! I must say this post dissapoints me very much. Guest guest
I respect the right to voice an opinion, but one persons information post about a television show has nothing to do with the people who chose to be on the show. What some of us would consider exploitation, is very different from seeking a little fame. I like to see all posts and make a choice about them myself. Watch it, don't watch it - none of anyone elses concern. ===================== Posted through Grouply, the better way to access your like this one. http://www.grouply.com/?code=post
Guest guest
Ditto. If this is going to make us laugh, are we supposed to be laughing with the LP's or at the LP's? Guest guest
Or do we further cringe at the apparent further exploitation of 'one of us' for the meriment of Society? I have just watched, with great pride, the English Achondroplasic fly in from the paralymics, proudly displaying her gold medals!!!!!! Given the choice of watching this fantastic achievement or Hercules the Pit Bull (with our without lipstick), I have absolutely no doubt in my mind which I prefer. Guest guest
I agree with you watch or don't watch. Tomorrow I would like to see this subject dropped we don't need people writing about what they thought or didn't think. If you want to watch then do so but with an open mind. In their eyes it's just a game and I don't think anyone went into this thinking I will degrade LP's. Irwin In a message dated 9/18/2008 2:30:44 P.M. Guest guest
Well maybe if enough people voted against " entertainment posts " you would have a case. But once again LPs sit by and expect others will take care of it and then you complain later... I agree too many LPs make jerks of themselves and in turn hurt us who are trying to lead normal lives. No other National minority group tolerates such rampant and derogatory exploitation in the name of being fair to all Would NOW post ads for strip clubs on their site? Not until a lynch mob charges the Lpa board meetings will this change I fought the Nacho man/human seeing tray and endured more negatives Than positives for complainging about that disgusting display. Dwarf tossing isn't the only bad image LPA and the dwarf community should fight. Tony On Sep 18, 2008, at 12:00 PM, Marcia <crazycatlady2003@...> wrote: > I THOROUGHLY agree, Jim. Guest guest
Ugh. I watched this show and now have changed my mind. It was PURE exploitation! Of EVERYONE on the show. The producers purposely chose 3 people from specific 'groups'. Three gay waiters, three shapely African American women, Three little people, and three middle age steroid wo-men. This was absolutely the worst garbage I have seen in a long time. It comes from Japan.... I will have nightmares for days hearing someone bellow " Time ... to face .... the hole " ===================== Posted through Grouply, the better way to access your like this one. http://www.grouply.com/?code=post
Guest guest
Oh sure, that's a solution. " Lynch " the LPA board. It's not like we have much control over what individual LPs or television networks choose to do. Tony, as a former officer, you should know better. All of us are unpaid, overworked volunteers who have a hard enough time getting people to run for office much less volunteer to do anything. I didn't see your name on the ballot last election cycle. Have you offered to serve on the LPA advocacy committee? I'm sure Joe would love to have your help. (BTW, we actually have accomplished a lot in the past year, including funding over 30k in scholarships, increased spending in adoptions, medical grants, Kitchen's Funds; networking with genetic alliances and other disability groups; protesting abusive web sites and radio shock jocks; expanding community outreach, parental support, and medical advisory board, relocating our headquarters, and hiring a permanent executive director.) Guest guest
I was " Lynched " over my position on Nacho Man now wasn't I? It wasn't meant literally. Thanks for addressing the rest of my comments. On Sep 21, 2008, at 10:54 AM, Bill Bradford wrote: > Oh sure, that's a solution. " Lynch " the LPA board. Guest guest
Bill you didn't see my name on the Ballot, true, but you may have seen it on other papers that camr through LPA, that aides the efforts in paragraph 2. The board had nothing to distribute if there is nobody donating. On Sep 21, 2008, at 10:54 AM, Bill Bradford wrote: > Tony, as a former officer, you should know better. It's not like we > have much control over what individual LPs or television networks > choose to do.<<<< I don't see anywhere in LPA's Mission Statement (http://www.lpaonline.org/mc/page.do?sitePageId=44393 & orgId=lpa) a notation instructing its board to go around policing every dwarf in America; what they do for a living, who represents them (actors), what they watch for entertainment, how stupid they act in public. How many watched this inane show? How many will continue to watch? Does an LPA representative come to each and every household and change the channel to Face the Nation? From what I've read it seems the actors went into this venture with open eyes and were represented by someone in 'the community' (http://shortentertainment.biz/NewTalent.html); is it LPA's board responsibility to go around closing them down? Appearing on inane television shows is not physically harmful, as dwarf tossing would be and this being a free country limits how much watchdogging an organization can conduct. Being that LPA only has a board of volunteers severely constrains the amount of wars it can take up. Sometimes it's worth picking your battles carefully and allowing the inaneness to drift away by itself. I find it preferable that LPA's board sticks to an agenda with a future and not spend it's time battling dwarfs that choose to exploit themselves, whether it be on national television or as strippers in Vegas. And honestly, considering the history of lynching in the United States I'm more concerned that someone who is supposedly well educated choosing that term to rile the masses against their own. That to me is more shameful that a few actors seeking their 15 minutes of fame absurdly cavorting on a trivial television program.
Guest guest
Ditto, and I agree with ----------------------------- I did see the show and afterwards I said to myself, That was it? That was what we majorly worried over?! LOL Buttttttttt, I knew, and sure enough, others would still say it's the most major issue that the LPA is currently facing. Go figure? Oh well, it's only goes to show that we do NOT think alike, regardless of the same amount of inches from the ground we may all share. One day, and I know it will come, I would like to see the LPA be more concerned with what it-the Organization, can be doing positively, on it's own (like helping overseas lps, sponsoring lp foreign exchange school students, increasing fund raising in general but also in the aid of possibly sending a less than fortunate family to their first National Conference, and so, so, so much more). Rather than focus it's energy on the, albeit negative, actions of a few lps which is beyond the group's control anyway... and the way it should stay, I feel. Not meddling in what some may do on their own, but going forth and shining forth on what it, again, the Organization can positively do:). My thoughts only;), grady Bill, mentioned some of the current things the LPA was doing and thanks for sharing that:). And just as I said to Matt personally in my post previous to this one, Bill, please share MORE of that info, as it seems we hear sooo infrequently of what the LPA is doing positively as the assaults on it seem to outweigh it on here. So, please say more, NOT less, OK. And no this is not against Bill or a vent towards him, it's just my sharing how I feel:). Thanks:), grady > I don't see anywhere in LPA's Mission Statement (http://www.lpaonline.org/mc/page.do?sitePageId=44393 & orgId=lpa) a notation instructing its board to go around policing every dwarf in America; what they do for a living, who represents them (actors), what they watch for entertainment, how stupid they act in public.
