I'm intrigued...

Is it the way that I write my posts that no one hardly ever bothers to reply or

is it that I ask too stupid a question for anyone to think it is worth replying

to me?.... etc. I really thought someone would find something they could help

me with.

I dearly WOULD like to know

Thank you. I apologise if I am too boring for words.

Hi ,

Each case is different but I haven't had the throat issues but sometimes when I

do stand from a sitting or laying position my head pounds almost like it has its

own heart beat or something...I believe this is just because when going from one

of those positions to a standing you get a rush and your blood pressure just

needs to equal out. The thing that has been helping me is slowly standing up

after I have been sitting or laying down...I am not sure why this happens but

unsure if it is related to ctoma. Tympanoplasty is the reconstruction of the ear

drum...I also have Eustachian tube dysfunction on the right side. Maybe the ear

is plugged or something...when I couldn't get that plugged feeling gone I went

and had my ears cleaned by my surgeon...it sure made a difference for me.

Hi ,Funny that you mention the sore throat. Last few weeks, my throat has been bugging me as well and also going up my throat towards my right ear. When I swallow, I can hear stuff in there swishing around which is very annoying. What have the doctors been saying during all of this? 5 months is a long time to be putting up with all of that. I get the pounding or what seems like a heart beat in my ear & also the ringing. Happens during the day as well if I stand up too fast. If the doctor you are seeing right now doesn't seem to be doing anything, try getting a 2nd opinion or bug him for a ct scan to find out what is going on in there. Where abouts do you live? Have you been diagnosed with Cholesteatoma before? Have a history of a lot of ear infections? Let us know how it going and good luck >> Hi all> > recap: left ear c/toma operated on 2 yrs ago and had a tympanoplasty> right ear: suctioned in due to failing eustacian tube> > I have had ongoing sore throat and intermittent swelling of my throat for the last 5 months. This whole thing has been very frustrating for me as well. I had surgery to remove a c-toma two years ago but have ongoing eustachian tube dysfunction, which I can't get anyone to do anything about. We moved this past year so I had to change doctors. But the doctor who did the surgery kept telling me the plugged up feeling is just the hearing loss. Well, the new doc I started seeing recommended hearing aids and I wear them now, but I still can't hear out of that ear unless I pop my ear (like 100's of times a day). So she said it sounds like Eustachian tube dysfunction and there is nothing she can do for me. This is probably what caused my c-toma in the first place, so won't doing nothing cause my c-toma to form again? So she said MAYBE it is allergy related and she referred me to an allergist. I went yesterday and

was allergy tested and I don't have allergies. However, the doctor did prescribe some nasal sprays for me to try to open up that eustachian tube (FIANALLY!!) My point here, I guess, is the throat, sinuses ears are all connected and one could be irritating the other, possibly. I understand your frustration because the doctors don't seem to listen or want to help. Why couldn't one of the 4 or 5 ENT's I saw tried to prescribe something to see if it worked instead of saying do nothing. Doing nothing got me a big fat cholesteatoma in my ear, surgery, and severe hearing loss!!Hang in there and hopefully you will get the help you need. If nothing else, I have learned to be persistent in all of this!Take Care! From: AJ <amandajlear@...>Subject: Re: Throat issues - is it a link to cholesteatoma?cholesteatoma Date: Tuesday, May 10, 2011, 11:48 AM

It looks like your responses just needed some time to be accepted and posted. No question is boring here! We are here to help!

I initially went to an ENT to get my tonsils out, and during my exam, they found the cholesteatoma while checking my ears. I definitely think because the ears nose and throat are all somewhat connected that when one feels full it can affect

the other. If my ears feel full, it can bother my throat and sometimes feel either scratchy or painful. It’s like when you have springtime allergies and everything is affected, my nose and ears feel plugged and my throat seems to get sore too.

Take care,

A hearty thanks for all the replies, I am so pleased to hear from you all.

So I saw the 2nd referral guy yesterday - am sure they all hate me because of

what my primary care wrote! But pushing that aside...

Doc says my ears are looking good (phew but doesn't explain anything). He wants

me to go to the allergist and have a CT scan. I also have to go for a sleep

study in case of sleep apnea. Don't get me wrong but all I hear is them backing

up the primary care doctor. Yes I do snore but my hubby says it is a steady

rhythm and no silences (poor him I hear you say - grin - yep you are right) LoL.

I think some of my throat issues are definitely reflux and definitely allergy

related even if not a full blown allergy as I seem to be becoming quite chemical

sensitive. Mucus is clear (no infection) but thick.

Am on proton inhibitors e.g. Ranitidine but this is other issues so am just

trying to get this regulated. BUT the outcome is definitely that the sore

throat as against the thyroid area discomfort has gone so that gets a thumbs up.

I haven't used the salt water nasal flushing stuff in anger - teapot etc - does

anyone find this helps? I find this a horrible experience.

This will be my 4th CT Scan - he said it was to ensure there was nothing

lurking. My worry is that CT scans do cause cancer so am worried about whether

I should have it done :( I feel a bit stuck between the devil and the deep blue

sea! I asked the consultant about this but he offered no alternative :(

You mentioned the chemical sensitivity and I wander how many people who have

c-toma also suffer from chemical sensitiviy. I, for one have both.
