Guest guest
I have found that my stinkiest gas comes after I have eaten a lot of carbs and sugar - ie.....breads, corn, candy, etc. But, when I concentrate on protein (pork chops, chicken, fish, salads, etc.) it doesn't seem as bad and I tend to have more solid BM's (sorry, but it has to be said LOL). I do notice much looser stools (floaters, I call them) that fill the bowl and require at least 3 - 4 and sometimes 5 courtesy flushes if I eat a lot of carbs like pizza or breads.......just thought I'd throw my experience in. I really need to concentrate on just proteins......maybe I'd lose that last 20 pounds I'm shooting for ;-) Kellie in OKC 12-19-03 Dr R - the most fabulous!!!!! 304/178/goal: 150's someday ( and I KNOW I'll get there eventually) ;-) >From: " Dr Rutledge " <Dr_Rutledge@...> >Reply- >< > >Subject: RE: Re: Solution for Stinky Gas >Date: Fri, 6 Jan 2006 14:24:41 -0800 > >Hi, > >The gas come from undigested food that passes into the colon. > >i.e. Stage I => easily digested no gas. > >Fatty foods => gas > >Lactose => gas > >Complex undigested carbs => gas > > Re: Re: Solution for Stinky Gas > >I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I am almost 3 1/2 years out and >the >smell has not gotten much better no matter what I eliminate. (and no, that's not a typo. stanks is the equivalent to stinks, x 1000, in my opinion)! The Devrom used to reduce the odor to a " normal " odor, but that honeymoon ended in about 45 days' time. Guess my body got used to it. My situation is a horrible one in that I currently attend a small, privately owned Barber school. I decided to change careers from the corporate Marketing scene to one of hair, at the age of 42...oi, wish me luck. Anyway, the building is older and quite small, with one Ladies' room and one Men's room in the middle of the 'floor'. The heating system tends to pump an abundance of heat into the bathrooms, and therefore intensify any odors coming from them; and to make it worse, the ventilation system has duct leaks so the odors filter back into the workshop area. Clients sitting under the dryers will begin making faces and actually get up to complain at the front desk that the back area smells foul. To add to that embarrassment are the younger students, at least a dozen of them under age 25, who find it necessary to scream across the shop floor to the instructors that the back area " smells like someone took a sh*t " , " blew up the bathroom " , " calls for emergency gas masks " . As I said, it is a SMALL school with only a handful of students, 2 instructors and a steady, but small, streamline of clients. It doesn't take much to figure out WHO used to the restroom. It has gotten so embarrassing that I now clock out and drive up to the local gas station to make my business. This results in both lost time on the State Board clock and the fear of having a horrible accident because I can't always just go when I have to. I'm sure you can relate to those occasional emergencies when you gotta go NOW. There's got to be a better way. I, too, can relate to those last few pounds...16 and counting. Guest guest
My experience is very different. Since I swore off whey protein powders, I don't have much of a gas problem. Yesterday I indulged in one broccoli floret from a veggie platter, no dip. This morning I enjoyed just one " cloud of memory " from it. VERY identifiable - LOL. I have a friend who is from Veracruz. He calls toots " the soul of one bean gone to heaven! Guest guest
Is there such an animal as a protein drink that doesn't have whey in it? How do you get your protein? I thought I would be drinking protein drinks twice a day for the rest of my life in order to get enough protein. But I sure don't want to if it exacerbates the gas problems! in NC 305 pre-op fairywebmother2000 <fairywebmother2000@...> wrote: My experience is very different. Guest guest
Hi You can also get a soy protein powder. I use it since I developed some lactose intolerance post-op. Guest guest
There are several sources of protein supplement, several natural sources of protein and moore than one source of whey protein. I have problems with whey powder for some reason. But Dr R said it's way early to be worrying about protein at six months. He said it's a long term, maintenance requirement for all of us to avoid protein deficiency after weight loss has stabilized. His suggestion was to eat a balanced, healthy diet, protein first, veggies and fruit next, carbs last if at all. Guest guest
I drank Adkins shakes for a long time with no gas problem. Now I drink Muscle Milk from GNC. I love the chocolate milk flavor. Once I made it with milk and blew up like a balloon in about a 1/2 hour. I never thought I had a dairy sensitivity after MGB, but I have never drank a whole glass of mile since then, either. I mostly get gas from sweets. I sometimes get it from veggies that would give a normal person gas, such as beans, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower. I once commented that my gas didn't smell bad and someone on here commmented that I needed to see a nose and throat Dr to check out my nose cause it wasn't working right!
