For those of you who don't know me, I am Felice and had my mgb on 5/20/03 in Statesville with Dr. R. 20 minute surgery, out of the hospital the next morning. I was a textbook case, just like as described in the manual. I began at 247 lbs. I am 5'4 " . (my picture is on the www.mgbfriends.com website) I am the perfect mgb'er. I did everything the manual said to do. Gatorade, vitamins, supplements, bloodwork, etc. I lost 120 pounds in a year and felt great. Just after that one year mark, starting in about May 2004: I started to feel tired all the time. I attributed that to going back to school. I started to be unbelievably cold. I mean wearing a sweater over a long sleeve shirt in the summer in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I attributed that to not having the body fat I used to. NOVEMBER My feet started to swell. I called CLOS, and started to take in more protein, I was already on additional iron from the results of my one year labs. I went to see my local doctor and by that time I was so swollen in my feet, legs and thighs, she admitted me to the hospital where I stayed for 2 days on drugs to get rid of the fluid. The swelling returned and I called Dr. Rutledge. After faxing him my blood labs, he said in no uncertain terms that I needed a full revision. Of course my first reaction was " NO, I refuse to gain my weight back!!! " How silly that seems to me now. What is the good of being thin if you're dead!!!!!!!! {{{{{Keep reading, it gets even more interesting!}}}}} Dr. R. explained that basically I was not absorbing the nutrients I was ingesting, causing mal-nutrition from diminished protein levels, causing the swelling. I decided not to rush into surgery (I regret not having the revision immediately if not sooner, now, when I look back). I told Dr. R. I wanted to try to increase my protein intake and possibly avoid the revision. DECEMBER Despite my high intake of protein, the swelling returned. I made an appointment with my doctor. I was again admitted to the hospital. This time the situation was more serious. I had to have a blood transfusions, and IV's of all different kinds of drugs. I spent 5 days in the hospital. I had so much fluid in me that I lost 30 pounds of fluid in 5 days! By this time the revision was set for Bay City for January 9th (the first date that Dr. R. would be doing surgeries). The idea was to get me as healthy as possible and keep me healthy till I could get to Michigan. I came out of the hospital weighing 100 pounds!!!! JANUARY I went to Michigan 2 days before surgery in case I was swollen again. I was immediately admitted by Dr. R. and Dr. D. (2 of my favorite men, after my husband!!), and again IV's galore. Dr. R. even stayed in Michigan an extra day (thank you Dr. R.) because I wasn't ready physically for the revision. Everything went fine, Thank God! I had to stay in Michigan the required one week. Within days of the surgery I started to swell again. The swelling got so bad that I started leaking out one of my port sites. Back into the hospital I went. More IV's. I was finally able to return home. I was swelling again. 2 days after returning home my husband woke up in the middle of the night and heard rattling in my chest. His only decision was whether to rush me to the hospital or call 911. Straight into the hospital, only this time with Congestive Heart Failure. My oxygen level was at 90%. I don't know what that means, but whenever I tell anyone who understands these things their eyes pop out of their heads. My doctor spoke to both Dr. D. and Dr. R. This time the hospital stay was 6 days and I lost 20 pounds of fluid in 2 days. I just got home January 31. FEBRUARY I check for swelling constantly, and so far so good. Dr. R. said it still might take one or 2 more hospitalizations to get me right, the reasons having to do with how long it takes protein to do whatever it's supposed to do in your body, but I betting on no more hospitalizations. We'll see. Keep your fingers crossed and say a prayer. Here is what I really want to say. Listen to Dr. Rutledge, read and UNDERSTAND the manual. I did everything right and look what happened. Imagine if I didn't follow the rules. Eat your protein and take your vitamins and supplements. Drink your Gatorade and stay away from everything Dr. R. tells us to. Your life may depend on it!!! Guest guest
A good time was had by all at the Piedmont/Foothills Support Group's second support meeting. Our growing group met in sville this month and we are thinking about Hickory for our March meeting. One of our attendees reminded us all of how important keeping up with the board and attending support meetings is to Post Ops. Sharing our joys and sorrows, and the SUPPORT we give and receive helps us along in our journey to a healthier happier life. A. Guest guest
- you can try putting it in a protein shake - that usually masks the flavor pretty well (get plain or vanilla flavor). Or - talk to CLOS about taking acidolpholus tablets and the dosage! I couldn't take eating yogurt after about 4 months and switched to acidolpholus tablets and did fine, now I can eat yogurt again - weird, huh? Hope this helps! Guest guest
, I use it as a basic when making a fruit smoothie. Mixed frozen fruit, Splenda to taste, a little water and plain or any flavor yogurt. Sometimes I put banana, too. You will not know that there is yogurt in it. Look up recipes with yogurt on FoodNetwook.com. It's also good to use as a basic in salad dressing. Good Luck, Lyn in SC 10/30/03 305/135 re: Piedmont/Foothills Support Meeting > > > Hello Everyone, > > Hope everyone has had a great summer. Guest guest
please, please, please people stop using the same subject line when it has nothing to do with your email, how does the above subject have anything to do with mixing yogart into shakes!!!! I came home to 2500 emails after vacation and after finding this type of thing over and over I just deleted all of them. Too much trouble and agravation opening up mail looking for info and finding that it has nothing to do with the subject at all. Rant over. --- susansglass <susansglass@...> wrote: --------------------------------- Hi Does anyone have any ideas and suggestions on how I can consume yogart. I vomit everytime I eat yogart.
