Hi folks,

I am searching for suggestions from anyone who has had success with

keeping bile reflux at bay. This is for Cat, not me, by the way. As

a short reminder, she's my life-partner, and she had an open RNY in

December of '97 and has suffered almost nightly with bile attacks

since then... she did NOT have the MGB.

Last night, 3am, I was awakened by Cat's worse bile attack yet. (And

she's had some doozies over the last 3 years!) She sat straight up in

bed, bolted into the bathroom, and proceded with over 45 minutes of

wheezing, coughing (a lot went into her lungs, I could hear it with

my stethoscope... I used to be a respiratory therapist.), and retching

the foul, burning, yellow liquid. She was hurting and her throat was

burning so badly she audibly cried almost the whole time. I was in a

panic and felt so helpless.

My urge was to email the list right then, but she needed me far more

at the time. When she was able to come back to bed, I went to the

kitchen and got her some crackers to hopefully soak up any remaining

(and lurking) bile.

I do plan to get some canned diet soda for her next attack. She eats

very low fat, and doesn't eat right before bed. I'm also thinking of

taking her to the ER the next time she has an attack like this one.

(Or close to it) The medical documentation would be good for her case

for having a revision!

Any other suggestions out there? They will be most gratefully

received.

More than a bit shaken up;
