Guest guest
I have a lot of trouble with bruises from bandages as well. I, now, take my own bandages (flexible fabric ones work for me) to the doctor's office just in case they do not have the paper tape. , thanks for the information on the blood pressure cuff. I have problems with bruising from them as well. I will have to remember to tell the nurse not to pump it up so much. I didn't think that I could make that request. If anything, AIH has made me a more assertive medical consumer. Welcome to all of the newcomers. I have been in " lurk mode " the last couple of weeks. I live in rural Wyoming and was diagnosed with AIH in November 2001. I seemed to have " lucked out " (God's hand was in it all along) and found a gastro only two hours away who seems to be knowledgeable with AIH and its treatment. I am a teacher in a small high school, and this year I can not wait for school to be out for the summer. This entire school year has been consumed with medical tests and blood draws. I need this summer to recharge and regroup. (WY)
Guest guest
I have had so much discomfort with 'bandaids' and tape I ask to forgo the covering whenever possible. I spend an extra minute or so with the cotton ball on the site and hold my arm straight with pressure, I learned this from a friend who is a researcher who found that the people involved in the research had to have prolonged bloodwork and flexing the arm whould cause more scarring and potentially prouble with the veins. Straight arm and presure takes more time but protects the veins better. The vampires don't agree with me but I do it anyway. It's my arm! Guest guest
Patty, I also was told to hold direct pressure and do not bend the arm up. It works much better for me and I have far fewer bruises. I like you tell them it's my arm.
Guest guest
For what it's worth our Medlabs have notices prominently displayed suggesting that pressure be applied to the site for a few minutes. As you say this does help maintain the vein - especially when they are assaulted so often. Caroline (NZ) PS --- However --- I have struck a couple of " rough as guts " vampires who left me with an awful bruise. --- " J. Guest guest
Jane, easy bruising could be a sign that her platelets are low, which can definitely go along with AIH or any liver disease.

Guest guest
Jane, It could have something to do with a low platelet count. Guest guest
Bruises A bruise forms when a blow breaks small blood vessels near the skin's surface, allowing a small amount of blood to leak out under the skin. The trapped blood appears as a black-and-blue mark. Sometimes, there are tiny red dots or red splotches. Herbal Treatments If the skin isn't broken, a bandage isn't necessary. You can, however, enhance healing with these steps: Bruises respond well to compresses of Witch Hazel, Comfrey, or Arnica. Elevate the injured area and apply ice or a cold pack for 30 to 60 minutes at a time for a day or two after the injury. Diluted Witch Hazel can be poured into an ice tray and frozen before use Suzi What is a weed? Guest guest
Hi Kim: I'm not Bee, but I relate to your bruises... > > I have noticed lately that I am bruising really easily. My toes have black dots from where my daughters toys fell on them and it didn't really hurt. And some on my thighs and bum that I don't remember getting hurt. Is this a liver thing? I don't know if it's a " liver " thing... but I think it's a Healing thing. I got lots of " mysterious " bruises and/or I was bruising easily during my first year on the diet. Then I stopped bruising easily. It may have been retracing somehow. But I don't bruise easily now after more time on the diet. It could be retracing, since all injuries are retraced too, along with all symptoms, diseases, malfunctions, etc. Sometimes it is related to low vitamin C, so ensure you are taking the correct doses. Guest guest
I thought it might have something to do with dry skin brushing? If dry skin brushing were the cause everyone who is doing dry skin brushing would be bruising, but they aren't. I don't. Bee
Guest guest
I noticed that it takes longer for my bruises to fade. Does't dry skin brushing increase circulation? I'm not saying dryskin brushing causes bruises. Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry [ ] Re: Bruises > > I thought it might have something to do with dry skin brushing? +++Hi Treva. Guest guest
My bruises went from black to red after doing my daily dry skin brushing and epsom salt bath. Interesting... I'm not saying dryskin brushing causes bruises. +++Hi Shay. Dry skin brushing increases circulation to the skin which would help heal skin issues, by bringing more healing blood to the surface. It mainly gets the lymphatic system moving which is important for detoxification. All the best, Bee
