Suzi you are a wonder... I am trying to cut down my coffee intake and am doing pretty good with herbal teas on my days off which are few and far between. Just 2 or 3 cups of coffee during the day and the rest is lemon water and herbal teas. I feel really good doing this - I have even reduced my coffee intake at work quite a bit - down from 5 pots a night to between 2 and 3 pots - I know it is waay to much but I am slowly improving. I don't want to go too hog wild here at this time as my biggie thing will be finally quitting smoking on Jan. 29th. I have cut back lots but the final day is approaching. That day is the beginning of a long stretch at work and I smoke the least when at work so that is why that day. I have been working up to this day with eating more raw and have cut all sugars and dairy (except cheese) out of my diet. If I am drinking this much tea I am looking for recipes to nourish my body and or control my weight while quitting. Thank you so much for all the information that you supply.

Hi ,

Quitting the smoking will be a big step. Coffee and ciggies both go hand

in hand. They both stimulate the body and give a false impression

of...well stimulation. Cutting down on the coffee is a really good

start. I was not aware that you were working nights. You really need a

day time job and not a night time job. I know, I know, you needed a job

and this was available. Its cool. Personally, I think that night time

jobs are the demise of lots of peoples health. Man is not a true night

person like owls and cats and such. His body works on the daylight

principle, when the sun comes up he wakes up and when it goes down he

begins to get tired.

Good on getting rid of the sugars and dairy, you will be much better off

eating soft cheeses and not hard ones. Best is soft raw cheese if you

can get it before some danged fool pasteurizes it. You will find it easy

to control your weight as long as you consume lots of raw fruits and

green leafy vegetables. Do not overdo the processed carbs or ground

carbs (potatoes, beets, carrots, etc. you know the root veggies), and go

easy on the fats (including the cheese). Get most of your fats from

avocados or raw nuts (still in the shell as those outside of the shell

are dehydrated), and raw sunflower seeds.

All this will help you immensely.

"I was not aware that you were working nights"

Yes Don I am working nights and on top of that they are 16 to 17 hour shifts - So that is the main reason for the caffeine consumption. I have worked night shift for about 8 years on various jobs and this one is the hardest one by far. When get all my other problems worked out and I start to really get a life again I will work towards getting a day job and leaving my past vampire ways alone.

Good timing, Suzi. Marilyn and I were just discussing calcium yesterday. I googled "usrda" for what an average person needs a day. It says 1000 mg. I also heard that vit E is necessary for proper calcium absorption. Is this correct? The USRDA says 30 IU's daily for it. I'm saving these for Marilyn to look over. Hi and Candace,

I just wanted to say I think the two of you are doing tremendously well

with the changes you are making. Very well done to both of you for the

efforts taken to bring health back into your lives.

, I understand the long shift on the grave shift. Been there.

Spent approx. 23 years of my life there. Never again. No way will I ever

work a night shift. Not even a swing shift. Day shift or forget it. You

might try eating raw apples during your shift. Or, you might try a cup

of hot water with the juice of a lemon in it and 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoonful

of cayenne added in. Or you might try both. Gotta be better than 2 - 3

pots of coffee. Give it a try and see if it at least helps you cut down

even more. Do let me know though.

Candace, hang in there girl, not smoking is a wonderful goal to achieve.

Getting away from those cigarettes will improve your life quite a lot.

No more stinky hair, clothes, etc. You will be able to smell natural

scents again and even begin to taste things long forgotten.

We are here for you both and we are all rooting for your achievements to

bear the fruit of your labors. Very well done and Candace.

Peace be with you, both.
