Basic Winter Green Smoothie

Sounds great! I have to go to the grocery store in a little bit and I saw they have organic bananas on sale this week so I'm gonna grab a few and make this. Hhopefully they're ripe.

I just made a concoction and threw it in in the crockpot (my latest obsession). Let's see.... it was orginally supposed to be potato-leek soup, but I added some celery, a turnip, some corn and a sweet potato. I'll know if this is edible or disgusting in about 8 hrs. ;-)

Does everyone peel turnips? I never got this one straight.

I usually add kale to any smoothie I make.

Carol...did the kale end up being in little pieces or did it just about all dissolve? I've juiced kale but never put it in a blender. I just remember the time I didn't have a wheat grass juicer and tried making wheat grass juice in a blender with some water. I got a mouthful of slushy icky grass pieces and spit it out! Lol!. I was afraid that might happen with the kale in the smoothie.

I peel rutabagas (big turnip-like things), as they have a tough skin. I don't necessarily peel turnips, depends on their size. Younger ones may not be tough. I scrub everything with a stiff brush and dish soap though, so I end up half "peeling" anything from scrubbing the skin off during washing. I learned a weird trick to making veggie broth that has COLOR to, don't peel the onions, leave the yellow skin ON them, it adds color to the broth.

Has anyone tried the winter smoothie recipe yet? I'd like to know how it tastes....

Gloria,

Since I have a Vita Mix, everything gets smashed up beyond

recognition, and it is all turned into a smooth drink. I'm not sure

how kale would work in a regular blender - I haven't used a regular

blender in 10 years, ever since I bought my Vita Mix.
