I'm so sorry to hear of all of this. I don't know what has kept you in and out of the hospital for the last 3 weeks, but I hope you are feeling better soon.

I hate to say this, because I consider this a last resort, but I really think a lawyer would be a good thing now. Does the school have an FBA (Functional Behavior Assessment) in place for your son? If not, they need to do one, and I would insist on someone who is "highly qualified" to do it -- not just anyone. You can even get a doc to do it (a psychiatrist would be a good choice) if you disagree with their assessment.

The lawyer may suggest a Manifestation Hearing to determine if the suspension was based on conduct that was a manifestation of the child's disability.

I know you have had a lot of problems with the school system and have issues with your job being connected to them, but I would do what is right for your son. You could try talking to Ohio Legal Rights about how to get legal representation. Their website is: http://olrs.ohio.gov/ASP/HomePage.asp.

hi bad moring the school called and my father inlaw had to go get

my son from school they suspended him for a day but really for 2 day

b/c he came home this moring today and friday no school and monday

but they made my father inlaw sign and my son sign the paper of his

explusion. i thought i heard if you didnt sign they cant explel not

sure, i just in pain and have to deal with this, after hospital that

what i saying if he had an aid like the dr and hopsital suggested

him to have. and these teacher understand autistic and bipolar kids

and things and no when other kids teased them and when they dont

understand when they get frustrated, he said he didnt mean to say it

he was just so frustrated. can they do this, but maybe time period

might be good i dont know he hate school more and more and this is

high school. thanks letting me venting! angie, ps also found out

threw a teacher ther was testing going on that week and he was upset

and that kids tasing him and then on top my son told me that the sub

woulndt explain what she wanted him to write down so he just wrote

advice Suzanne, if you call olrs they will usually get back with you within a

day. When my son got suspended the school principal would always call a meeting

with me verifying the days off, the reason and then I would get a formal letter

from the school within the next day or so, and there would be a way to appeal

that decision. I think there are certain power phrases the kids pick up from

one another; ours was a threat to burn down the school, saying that brought a

kind of social status among their peers. Sometimes I think these administrators

need to look past the behavior. I think the teasing needs to stop ASAP by

either the positive behavior plan like Suzanne said or removing him from the

kids who are doing it; I mean you don’t want to let them destroy his self

esteem. Sorry you were in the hospital Angie, I hope everything is ok Call

olrs, it’s definitely worth it!
