Guest guest
Hello group, I've finally made it to the post op group. I've waited for this anniversary to post. I had MGB with Dr. Rutledge on March 5, 2001. No complications, no problems. My weight day of surgery was 318. Today it is 272. That's 46 pounds in three months. While it isn't the fastest weight loss and I have a long way to go, I'll take it knowing that I'm finally pointed in the right direction. As for eating, well, I can tolerate most things. I don't do well with meat, but I try to eat some for the protein. I also do not do well with eggs. I am religious about my vitamins, however, I can't tolerate the taste of the protein supplements. I've spent a small fortune on various brands and recipes but to no avail. I guess my taste buds are just snobs. I've tried to make up for the supplements by concentrating on protein rich foods such as peanut butter, cheese, etc. My biggest challenge is in quenching my constant thirst. I never was a tea or coffee drinker so don't miss those, however, the other day I almost mugged my mother for her diet coke. I don't like gatorade and find most fruit juices too sweet. My biggest drink joys are fruit slushes from Sonic and virgin dacquiri mixes from Bacardi (the peach one especially). Other than that, I'm pretty much limited to water and lemonade. I work out at the YMCA four days a week - two days with water aerobics and two days with upper body nautilus and walking. My trainer doesn't want to get started with much lower body stuff until I've lost over 100 pounds and can have a large abdominal hernia repaired. I've set some small goals for myself and have accomplished them. I wanted to lose more weight than my age by the time of my birthday - mission accomplished - on Sunday I turned 42. I also wanted to remove my wedding rings - mission accomplished - now my husband is going to have them cleaned and reconditioned for me. I haven't been able to remove my rings in many years. My next goal is a pair of jeans that I haven't worn in many years. As for clothes I'm not yet buying new things, just rediscovering some clothes I haven't worn in a long time. My energy levels are great. We are planning to take our boys to Carowinds this month and to Busch Gardens in July. I may not be able to ride the roller coasters yet, but I will be able to walk around the parks with ease. My family is very supportive and enjoying the new me. My boys call me the incredible shrinking mom. Well that's alot for my first post on this group. I enjoy reading everyone's posts and especially am gratified by the love and support offered by everyone here. I learn something everytime I read my emails.
