Guest guest
I was informed today that effective July 2007 BCMH is planning to do away with the Neurology and Orthopedic Satellite Clinics. They have already discontinued the cardiac satelite clinics a few years ago. This will only leave the Hearing and Visual satelite clinics. I am unsure if they still provide the pulmonary clinic. I did call our county health department to verify what I had been told and spoke to the BCMH nurse for our county and she confirmed what I had been told. For thousands of Ohio families this will translate to medical, financial and transportation hardships. Thousands of families depend on the BCMH satellite clinics for specialize health care. They can not afford to drive to the larger cities, or they do not have transportation to get to the larger areas, or their child(ren) do not travel well and these trips become nightmares. The satelite clinics have given families the chance to have their children receive medical care from specialist that they normally would be unable to get to. I know for us, for the last 13 years we have used our county othro satelite clinic. This save us the trip to Akron. This trip from our driveway to the doctors office takes 1 hour 20 minutes on a good. We have a long wait to see the doctor than the trip home. It takes most of our day and throws out of routine badly. For families in the southern part of our county this trip would be 2 plus hours 1 way. Our county nurse states that with the change in government the 1st of the year this may change but she does not look for this to happen without the help of families statewide writing, calling and emailing their area Representatives and the contact people at BCMH. Below is the information from BCMH webpage contact information. Please write and let BCMH know that this service need to be kept in place to ensure children continue to recieve the specialized care they need without forcing parent into a situation of choosing a local doctor that may not have the training and experience to deal with their childs disability effectively.
