Guest guest
, I know what you mean. We go to the library and get " books on tape " . We don't usually listen to them together unless it is something we both want to read, but we use them a lot for commuting. I am an avid reader(hence degree in English and library wrok), but hubby rarely ever picked up a book. Since we've had the TV cut off, he has become a reader. He asked me the other day if I ever cried while reading a book, and I said, " all the time " . I love that he is experiencing all these new things with books. It's never too late to become a reader. We tell all of our friends that " tv rots your brain " . I'm able to keep up with the news by reading the newspaper, and on the TV's at the gym. Sometimes I can't believe I wasted so much of my life in front of a TV! Well, I guess now I do it in front of a computer screen, but often times, I'm at work, getting paid to do it! manda > My TV broke a while ago and I couldn't afford to replace it for a few months > and I was AMAZED to realize how much time I was spending in front of it! Guest guest
I hardley ever watch tv, there isnt anything worth watching on there. I usually crochet, do ceramics, scrapbooking, read, stuff like that. Usually Im busy doing other things and dont have the time. Ive been taking college courses over the summer and so that has kept me busy too. He hates to read so that ends that. He is a channel surfer...he watches one station for about 3 minutes and then turns it to something else...I think its a male thing...lol Jeanne in NY --- Manda <eskieluvr@...> wrote: > , > I know what you mean. Guest guest
that is so great, Manda!! Cat and I listen to books on tape together all the time... particularly Cornwell... We recently experienced the, " death, " of our tape player in the car and are scrambling for the funds to repair the short in our car speakers. (The books on tape make our frequent trips to Redding, CA, all the much shorter.) In fact, we listened to the unabridged 9-book version of King's, " The Green Mile, " on tape going to/from Redding. (So much better than the great Tom Hanks movie!!) Glad you share our Books-On-Tape passion!; Jenn (and Cat) in Vancouver, WA " Manda " <eskieluvr@p...> wrote: > , > I know what you mean. Guest guest
> > Glad you share our Books-On-Tape passion!; > Jenn (and Cat) in Vancouver, WA > I LOVE books on CD! I have a 40 min. drive to and from my office each day and I have become totally addicted to listening to books! I just went through all 4 of the Harry Potter books and let me tell you, I completely understand why kids love those books! The crazy pets, the funny candy...especially the anything jelly beans....eeeww one that tastes like boogers.....although no one admits they got one that tastes like boogers cause then everyone will know they know what a booger tastes like LOLOL....and the funny spells....it is just plain cute!!!! And on a more adult line, a lot of Oprah's book of the months are on CD. I loved White Oleander, A Map Of The World, and We Are The Mulvaneys. Paradise by Toni on was hard to get into at first because of all the characters and the style it was written in...she bounced from person to person and time period to time period..... But well worth the trouble once I got into it! I even have a little Sony CD Walkman that I listen to as I am falling asleep. Like I said....totally addicted! But that can cause a problem.....They dont have as many books on CD as they do on tape. And my dang car does not have a tape player!! I just assumed if it had a CD player it was a tape player also....nope not the case. So I am about to go through my local library's complete catalog of books on CD and I dont know what in the world I will do when that happens! I will be like a junky needin a fix.......I will be hanging out in front of Borders Books or and Nobles...with a tin cup asking for money to buy me a book fix! Glad to know we have one more thing in common, Ladies! BethBNLiterate
Guest guest
I think you can also RENT them from, of all places, Cracker Barrel. You pay for the first one whatever it costs, but then you can turn it in and get everything back but 3 or 4 dollars...and you can turn them in at any Cracker Barrel. I don't know if they have CDs but my mother-in-law does it all the time. Guest guest
Yes, but Bethie wants a CD of " The Story of 'O' " , and I don't think she's gonna find that at the Cracker Barrel. Guest guest
Well...there are probably some OTHER shops where Bethie could shop and I am SURE you could help her find them...and some appropriate titles...right Steve?
