You go girl! Your story could have been longer and would have been even more

enjoyable. You were " rambling on " cause your family needs to know. This

family. Here! And we are so happy for you and for your sons! Keep it up!

Dana, Thanks for the post.

I didn't realize I had a " tail Bone " problem.

But, yes I do the same thing. I can't get comfortable sitting, in a car,

movie, or kitchen chair. I bounce all around.

I guess it's the missing padding.

Thanks for your story.

Warmest Regards TommyB

Hi everyone - didn't want to miss out posting my 8 month update (was waiting

to weight in at WW tonight). I have lost 83.7 pounds since 10/04/00, down

from a size 26W jeans to a " regular " 16 and some 14s. I feel fabulous (the

only problem I ever have is about once a week in the middle of the night with

indigestion which I attribute to hunger - a few Ritz crackers usually works

nicely). I have lost a total of about 45 inches - 12 in my hips alone! To

all my littermates for the week life continues to be grand!

I saw someone tonight I had not seen since surgery and he jokingly asked my

husband where his wife was! He then said I looked fabulous and said we would

do dinner after the next 85 pounds - I said if I lost another 85 pounds I

would have to have been dead for a couple of months! My goal is another 50

and see where I am - probably overall after plastic surgery, etc. I need to

lose another 60 at least but we'll see when I get there!

Erli you are doing beautifully - I can't wait to see you! Make sure

you bring lots of pictures of the wedding the next time we get together!

Dana,

Keep taking up space here....I don't know about everyone, but I think most of

us can either look back and relate, catch a brief glimpse of the life we too

are living or look forward to taking a walk in your shoes (or one tennis shoe

at least..LOL).

Enjoy your wonderful new life and new you!

Sorry you're having trouble . Those of us who have had no trouble need to

feel nothing but gratitude and should reach out to those of you who have. We all

know going it that it's a possibility. But when it actually happens, it is

difficult.

You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Hi ,

I have a mild form of what you are going through. My stomach has never been

" quite right " . I'm going to see a doctor Thursday about getting an endoscopy.

If I don't take my prevacid, I get that burny tummy too. I tried to get a

prescription for Carafate while I was at support meeting but Dr. R forgot. So

keep us posted.

8 month update

Hi Gang,

I don't post very often, but I wanted to update you on my

results, almost 9 months after the MGB. To date, I have lost 89 lbs.

I started at 250 and I am now 161. I have had some problems though.

In April, I had some problems with major burning and pains in my

stomach. I went to the ER and they could not figure out what my

problems were. They said it was gas, that I should go home and take

Gas-X. The gas-x did not help, and for 3 days I stayed in pain until

I went back to the ER. They gave me some Pepcid, and it decreased

some of my burning. I had tried contacting Dr. R but he was out of

town that weekend, but the ER doc spoke to him on Monday, and he

told me to go back on my Prevacid and Carafate. Dr. R also requested

to see me that week.

julie, i am sorry you are having these problems. when your gastro guy

says see a surgeon, do you know if he means he thinks you need a

reversal or revision to rny? have they talked about doing other, non-

surgical treatments first? good luck and keep us posted!

Hi ,

I don't think anyone will blast you here. At least I hope not. I

know we all secretly hope that we won't be the ones posting the same

information in a couple of months. 6-8 months seems to be an

important time post op. Someone else who posted posted in at 6

months. I myself have had a couple of the vomitting bile episodes at

2 months post op, but changing some food habits, IE, no spicy foods,

no vitamin before bedtime, and taking citrucel before bed, not eating

before bed has thankfully worked for me... so far. I am very sorry

to hear about your problems, especially since you are so young. I am

24 also. I couldn't imagine spending the rest of my life in such

misery. If it should happen to me, I will ask Dr R to take down my

loop and convert it to an RNY.

I'm curious as to the size and shape of your gastric pouch, I have

always heard that it is long and skinny. Do you think that the shape

of your stomach makes the condition worse?

Please keep us updated, and if you would like to email me

privately... please do so.

I am so sorry you are having these problems and have

to admit it is scary to read about this. I really

appreciate your honesty and hope you will let us know

what you find out. We can't hide out heads in the

sand. We need to be realistic and face any possible

complications head on. I hope the odds are on our

side.

Good luck, !

I am so sorry that you are having this problem. Stay with the doctors until you

get something that will help this. It is something that can be treated--you

might even have to have a revision done--perhaps an RNY. If I were you I would

take the test results and get an appointment with Dr. Rutledge and see what he

things about this. He needs to be aware of problems like this.

Congratulations on your success. I know you do not want to undo that. I would

explore all possibilities before I decided what to do about it. I will be

praying for you.

I don't post very often, but I wanted to update you on my

to see me that week.

Dr. R saw me and spoke to me about my problems. I always took my

vitamins, citrucel (almost always-in pill form) and I always chewed

tums. I did not always take the fish oil, Creatine, whey protein etc.

He told me at that time I needed to be completely faithful in taking

that medicine as well as the Prevacid and Carafete. I said no

problem, and went back to taking all the meds.

Well, its two months later and the problems have not gotten any

better. I started throwing up in the middle of the night, a nasty

yellow lliquid and the burning would stay in my throat and chest. It

comes up so quick, that I can't always make it to the bathroom. I

burn in my tummy 4-5 times a day, which most times eating will make

feel better. At first I thought it was hunger pains. But if I didnt

eat within a little while, I would get a nasty taste in my

mouth..which too started to burn.So in May I went to see my PCP and

explained to her the problems I was having. She gave me some tips

about things to do to make me feel better ie; no spicy foods, no

dairy, no red sauces, no peppermint etc..and also raising my bed. I

followed her orders and my problems lessened, but did not stop. She

referred me to a Gastro.

The gastro doc talked to me and he also spoke to me about the

surgery. He told me to stop taking the carafate and prevacid. He

stated that my problems were related to excess bile in my tummy and

backing up into my stomach. My gastro doc gave me an endoscopy. When

he did, he said he had to drain a large amount of bile out of my

tummy to complete the test. According to him, my tummy is about the

size of a small orange, or about 6 oz. He did see ulcerations, and

alot of imflamation in my tummy. He is doing a Gall bladder test on

Thursday to make sure its working properly. He said if nothing is

wrong with my Gallbladder, then I will need to speak to a Surgeon. He

said that the bile is beginning to eat at my tummy, and I will need

something done to correct this problem. I was a little drowsy after

the endoscopy, so I couldnt speak to him in complete detail. After my

Gallbladder results come in I will meet with him and speak with him

in depth.

I am planning on getting a second opinion, to make sure that this

diagnosis is correct. I am not posting this to get slammed or spat

at. I am just posting my results and my problems. I really would like

some opinions if you have them. I know there are others out there,

because my Gastro doc is seeing 4 other MGB patients with some

simular problems. Is anyone out there having these problems? I am

young (24) and really want to live a long healthy life. Please if

someone is familiar with these problems email me..either privately

(julielassiter@...)or public.

I do look feel alot better about myself, the changes I have been

through have been both positive and negative. I have gone from a size

24 to a 12, and look fantastic. I really wish that I could feel as

good on the inside as I do on the outside.

Thanks for listening,

, I'm so sorry you are having problems. I'll keep you in my

prayers.

Do you live in North Carolina? I'm curious as to where this surgeon

is located that has diagnosed your problems.

Dear , So sorry to hear of your plight. I only hope that all turns out

well through whatever process needs to be used, the less invasive, the

better. I would also hope that no one would blast you, and if they do. . .

refer them to me! I'll tell them what for!!! This MUST be an honest and

open forum. Friends sharing their truths and their experiences with other

friends. The good, the bad and the ugly. Otherwise it is useless. Please

keep us updated and know that we are here to support and encourage you and

help you in any way we can. You will eventually be fine, of that I am

certain. You're much too young to even think of living this way. Again,

sorry that you're having a bad time. If we can help, you need only ask!

Warmly, PhillyJude

Hi all;

I'm only 2 days shy of the 8 month mark, but I'll post anyway. :)

I needed to go to my PCP's office to get re-tested on my iron level after

taking iron suppliments for a month. (I encourage *everyone* to have their

iron levels checked frequently, BTW.) While in the office I weighed on my

PCP's scales.... the ones I try to weigh monthly on. My 8 month total loss

is 97 pounds! (7 pounds last month) I missed both the 100 pound mark *and*

hitting 200 by 3 little pounds! LOL So get the century club ready for

me... I'm going to join next month! *big-stoopid-grin*

My PCP saw me in passing, and he was STUNNED. He said that if continued to

do this great, I'd get, " too healthy, " to be his patient. LOL What a

sweetheart!

Here's the neat part... well... the last part of it is neat, at least. I

had to go to my former employer to finish emptying out my 401K. *sigh*

Disability issues... fibromyalgia and chronic pain syndrome... are straining

our financial situation unfortunately, and we decided to pay off our car and

other bills before my disability insurance runs out in December... I'm still

fighting with social insecurity. AARRGGHH!!!

Anyway... I hopped on the elevator to see my past co-workers, and was

OVERWHELMED by everyone saying, " You look GREAT!, " " How much have you

lost?, " and, " Tell me how you did it! " It was so neat and kinda

embarassing. LOL

Thats it for now... my very best;

Lara,

Glad to see you posting but sorry your life is still in a mess! Hope things

get better soon.

I think most of us are going to end up at Hawthorn through MedStay (I think

at the same rates that we used for our surgical stays). Hope to meet you at

the picnic!
