Guest guest
Tommy, If I ever need a revision to lose more weight, I will probably go with the RNY. I would not go back to Dr R considering the 5k upfront fee that he has now. If I needed a revision because I had lost too much weight, I would feel the most comfortable having Dr R do it. manda > > > > > Hi, > > > > > > > > I had surgery on 4/12/2000. Guest guest
TommyB, Not necessarily....this surgical process is not an exact science. When Dr. R. says he bypasses 'about' 6 feet, this is a estimate and not exact. Some patients have more bypassed and others less. And no I don't think Dr. R offers any kind of warranty, do you know of any surgeon that offers a warranty on surgery??? And no, I do not consider the earlier surgery defective in any way, as I said I have lost 80 lbs already, how can you consider that defective? Others have had revisions for the exact same reasons I am considering it, that they did not lose all their intended weight (for whatever the reason). I am looking at my options, and to me if this revision is a viable option, I am going to go for it!! At least some form of a discount/adjustment price structure. Of course the hospital & anethesia charges would be duplicated, but the surgery ?? All opinions are welcomed. Guest guest
I haven't heard a price for a revision. Is this for the doctor, or for the total?? Pat RE: losing weight and stopping losing weight Hi, I had surgery on 4/12/2000. To date, I have lost 100 lbs. but seemed to have stopped losing last November. I exercise 5 nights a week at the gym, and take my vitamins religiously. I am beginning to be a little disappointed, as I still have around 100 lbs to lose. I understand the revision surgery is not covered by insurance and costs around $5,000. Is this correct? Guest guest
One reason is that how much intestine to bypass in any given individual is a guess at best. Time proves either that it was enough or not enough, thus requiring either more or less intestine be bypassed. The MGB is not the only surgery that has this problem. Most of them do. It is an inexact science at best. Few surgeries come with guarantees. Educated guesses would describe them best I believe. No doctor that I have ever known will be pinned down to a specific outcome about anything. Guest guest
I am not defending Dr. R, but have you priced RNY's? Our local surgeon who does them lap (when he can and nothing goes wrong) has a surgery price tag total of $40,000 if nothing goes wrong! I know one woman who ended up closer to $60,000! Most of his patients end up in the ICU for 2 or more days. Pat My good friend who weighed around 400 lbs. a year ago who used this surgeon has only lost about 80 pounds. She is still larger than I was when I had the MGB. All WLS cope with these same problems. Guest guest
Pat, Luckily, my insurance covers 100% of obesity surgery, and as long as I am still over 100 lbs, I am eligible for a revision. > > > > > > Hi, > > > > > > > > > > I had surgery on 4/12/2000. Guest guest
That is great! I am still paying for mine and doubt I could ever afford a revision, but I might. Insurance for small companies is getting very hard to get. Ours just notified us that our hospital and affiliated clinics will no longer participate in our insurance program as they will not accept the low payments being negotiated by the insurance company. Our agent is shopping for a new insurance for us and it is very hard to find one that is any good.
