It sounds like you are eating the right amount, I eat about like that now and

I'm almost 3 months post op. I get really hungry but just a few bites of

something seems to fix it. I wouldn't worry your tummy will tell you when you

are full, if you overeat you WILL know it.

Keep eating and enjoy yourself.

Tonya,

Don't worry so much about what you are eating - eat when you feel hungry and

stop when you don't! The weight loss sounds wonderful - I only lost 10

pounds the first four weeks!

Tonya,

I've wondered the same thing about myself, so I'm anxious to see what the other

post-ops have to say. Seems like I can eat more veggies/salads than I can of

say chicken/fish or a sandwich. I was disappointed that I don't handle bread

too well. I've always been a big bread eater, and it fills me up way to much,

so I avoid it now.

I hope this don't sound stupid, but you're all my friends so here it goes....

I'm afraid that I'm going to stretch out my new tummy. But it don't look like

to me the way the operation is done, that could happen. Sometimes, I think I

just get down, and think " What if I fail at this, too? "

Any advise?

Hugs,

Tonya,

It sounds okay to me.. There are some days when I get down a whole house

salad, or 1/2 of a chef's salad I make at home, and there are some days I can

only eat a few bites.. I'm not sure what the reasoning is to this.. On Sundays

(my worst day of the week) I find myself trying to eat all day long!!!! I can't

get but a couple of bites of anything (really) but my head is either in the frig

looking for that certain something, or I'm munching on a hand full of pretzels,

hard candy, drinking lemonaide, whatever!!!!! drives me nuts, and I think the

main reason is my dh is home watching the races or ball games all day sitting on

his butt in front of the t.v. the only way I can spend the day with him, is to

sit too, and I really get so bored I turn to eating (my old habits are hard to

break). But at the end of the day (Sundays) I really notice that I haven't

actually consumed that much food.. but only had bites of about everything in the

house!!!

I also have noticed after 6 months post0p that I seem to loose more every

other month... whats that all about? LOL

But... if I sound like I'm complaining I am NOT.. I am so happy to be

regularly loosing about 8 to 10 pounds a month....now. When I'm just sitting

here maintaining I'll complain!! ha.

Tonya--

Your doing just fine. If you can tolerate it go for it. I'm still working

on what I can eat, since this nausea thing persists. Had a couple of

strawberries and going to have some salsa later--tolerate salsa just fine.

Can't do chicken but I can salsa--go figure.

Oh and to my Mickey D buddies out there. Had 3/4 of egg mc muffin w/o the

Canadian bacon--can't do ham products either.

Hi Tonya,

I'm also a little over a month post op 3/20 -23 pounds so far.. :) I have

wondered the same thing about myself. I don't have many problems eating but

I do have problems eating certain foods. I notice that I get hungry every

four hours and usually I eat a snack or salad or very small meal and that

does me just fine. I eat much more fruits and veggies than I ever did

before (mainly because the feel good in my tummy) I don't eat chicken or

bread anymore cause it usually gives me a stomach ache.

The moral of my little paragraph is.. I don't think it's how much you are

eating as much as it is WHAT you are eating. I used to eat a lot of fast

food, fried foods and fatty sweets - now I don't touch any of that. So the

wait keeps coming off..and as long as it keeps coming off I'm happy at

whatever pace :)

The two things that taste the best to me right now are salads and fruit.

Hi ,

Glad to hear you're doing well - I'm finding that I can eat most anything

too. I tried

a bite of pizza tonight and although it stayed down - the thick crust wasn't

the most

comfortable feeling so I think I'll try to avoid it in the future. Other

than that I seem to

be doing okay with everything else. I seem to get hungry every 1-2 hours

but usually

a few bites cures it. Seems like once a day though I need to eat *more*

(usually a

half of a salad or something). Have you tried rice yet??

Thanks Trudy,

I'm finding myself doing that too - eating throughout the day - but I guess

that's good.

I tend to munch all day long - my stomach doesn't feel the greatest when

it's

empty. My friends keep telling me that I'm not eating nearly as much as I

used to

so I guess that's a good indicator. Thanks again for the info.

Tonya,

We sound very similiar :) Keep me posted on your progress and I'll do the

same. I did try a tiny bit of rice but it had the same affect as bread =

very heavy. When I ate pizza it was not even a half of a slice and very

thin crust. High Carb foods don't sit well with me.. and to think those use

to be my favvvvorites :) Now I'm like you ..lots of salad and fruit YUM!

I'm exactly where you are....and 7 months out. Some days it seems like I can

get way more food in. Some days I can barely stand to eat. And when I'm

bored, it seems like I graze all day. But even when it seems I've eaten tons,

when I actually write it down and look at it, its minimal compared to how I

used to eat.

The first few months I just didn't want food like I used to. Now, I still

want it but my body just won't accept it (the miracle of MGB!!). Finally, a

, You're right, we're family, and any question is fine. But advice

for you? I have some. QUIT WORRYING! You're gonna do fine. Dr. R did a

good job, and you basically can't fail unless you REALLY work at it! We can

stretch our tummies, if we pig out repeatedly, but seriously, who is gonna do

that? Not you. Not me.

So, dear family member, relax. Enjoy this wonderful opportunity we have to

get our lives back. Revel in that reality. Eat wisely, and enjoy every

bite. We don't have to feel guilty anymore. We don't have to diet anymore.

We don't have to do anything except listen to our bodies and do what our body

dictates. A year from now, you're not going to recognize your own little

self! Warmly, PhillyJude

Hi --

Boy, my hubby and I went out to dinner tonight. Had pasta with marinara

sauce. Well, after taking 1/2 to eat 4 forkfuls of pasta, it decided it

wasn't right for me. Came back up. I don't understand. I can eat salsa,

but not pasta. Can eat cottage cheese till it is coming out my ears, but not

pasta. Bummer. I guess I'll just have the nacho's the next time I go. And

I love my mariner sauce too. Boo Oho.

Yes, I'm sure the MGB will be popular. When I was in the hospital for

dehydration last month, I was the " patient who had that done. " My surgeon up

here still wants to take a peek inside. I told him to give me awhile and

I'll come in for my 100,000 mile check up and then he can take a peek. Not

too mention I'm my PCP's first patient to have this done. Its nice being

first at something once and awhile. :-)

, Another thing to keep in mind, as you get further out from your date

of surgery, your tummy adapts better to foods. Try bread again in a month,

and you may find that you tolerate it perfectly well. At 6-8 weeks, I

couldn't eat chicken. Now, no problem. Couldn't eat pasta, now a little is

OK. And so on. We keep adjusting and adapting. The only thing I can't eat

now is eggs. They don't like me, and I don't much like them either!

Everything else is fine. Be well. Enjoy the ride! And salads and veggies,

I can eat lots of them too. I think we chew them, extract their water, and

they become much smaller in volume than they look going in. Not sure, but I

can eat a large salad without any problem, and could right at 4 weeks.

Warmly, PhillyJude

Caron, I'd suggest you try pasta again in a month, and with lots of sauce.

I'll bet it goes down and feels fine by then. I couldn't eat pasta or rice

for the first 3-4 months. Now, no problem as long as there is sauce of some

kind with it. Dry-ish pasta or rice is still not good for me, but I just

make sure it has liquid, and I'm fine. Hope this helps. PhillyJude

Since your PCP is wanting to " take a peek " so badly, maybe you ought to make
