Guest guest
folks..... i have already sent this post once, but in case it just didnt send here it is again... the fund.... what if something negative happens to someone we " fund " to have the MGB? i mean, this would be a concern even if we were funding root canals (nothing personal toward the MGB) lord knows i have had ZERO complications and would not expect anyone else to have a problem either....but...... also look at the chance on some kook being the one who gets " funded " at least one nut got through dr r's STRICT screening and became " disgruntled " i would hate to have been a person who gave even a word of encouragement to THAT one!(hey! WHO KNEW??) i love this surgery and i tell EVERYONE how well it did for me, but i always follow up with if you are interested, i suggest they research and do all the things required. i would NEVER venture to give money to someone to have this surgery or even that root canal i spoke of earlier. somehow this just seems to leave us all open to a liable suit or something.... i am NOT an attorney i know NOTHING about any of this.....can someone shed light on this? xoxoxo cs > Count me in, too. Guest guest
Hey , I sent an email to Trish - requesting names and emails of attorneys that have had an MGB - so that we can contact them first for some legal advice! Guest guest
Some great ideas SUzanne and we will need alot of help!!! First, we need to find an attorney and discuss setting up a non-profit and find out what else we have to do. Then I would say maybe we can set up a board with Dr R included of course and probably Dana too. But first things first! I have emailed Trish and she is going to find out if we have any past lawyers who might do some pro-bono work for us. We are looking for any and all input! Guest guest
, Carol and all, Just a few random thoughts on this, I think this is a WONDERFUL idea, I can't tell you in the 3 years since my surgery how many people could have benefited from this gift. It could be one way that we could give back, where having this surgery has given all of us so much to be thankful for! One thing that came to mind when reading the posts, many people set up benefit accounts, such as when family loses its home to fire and have no insurance coverage, children's benefit account when they lose a parent..... I know these are generally non profit things, not sure how they work, any bankers on here? As far as the legal issues, unhappy post ops ect, when you have this surgery you sign papers stating that you are well aware of the risks and complications (I had one of those complications - leak) this is for Dr. R's protection. Also, at January Support Group meeting, someone that had surgery at Regional mentioned that having surgery with Dr. R there, under the contract that they signed, has some type of terminology in it " global " is the word I'm remembering, that possibly covers you for complications, any post op's from Regional that had complications, please chime in, this would be good to know. As far as how whom to receive the benefit, it can be done on many levels, financial need, health issues, name drawn from lottery............. My last thought on this would be a name........ being an old timer here, not sure how many remember this but our FIRST christmas party was held at Dr. R's old office in Durham, we had an " Angel " party, we each surprised him with a personal angel ornament ~~~ as he was OUR angel! So just a thought, I know Oprah has her angel network ~~~ but we could have our " MGB Angel Fund " ????? Guest guest
it is me ..... being cranky again...... i know everyone thinks i am a stick in the mud, but..... if we are not legally liable.... wouldn't you still feel awful for funding a person who has a terrible complication or turns out to be a kook? like i said.... i could not sleep if i thought i had contributed to " you-know-who's " surgery i guess i just have a guilty nature! i am glad you all want to spread the joy.....so do i, but i dont think i can in good concience on this one. i think i am more worried about funding a nut than any complication as i dont see much in the way of problems with the surgery. good luck with this endeavor. my $.02 xoxoxo cs > > , Carol and all, > > Just a few random thoughts on this, I think this is a WONDERFUL idea, I can't tell you in the 3 years since my surgery how many people could have benefited from this gift. Guest guest
I agree with . Having come up with the $13,000 to pay for my surgery and travel expenses, I think there is tremendous ownership in your success when you had to sacrifice to get it. Sticking in the mud also.... Guest guest
I tend to agree, only my expense was more like $19,000 with the price increase. And I will be paying on that for a very long time to come. Guest guest
Hey all, Had an interesting happen yesterday. My 16 year old daughter came home from highschool and said that in school she has to do a speech on something she knows about and she decided that she is going to do her speech on MGB. When I started asking her about how much she knew about it - I was pleasantly surprised to find out that she reallly understood ALOT about my MGB!!!! She said to me , " Mom - I won't tell them that you had it if you don't want me to? " I told her it was fine to tell them that her mom decided to have MGB because I am PROUD that I have finally found a way to get my life back!!!! My daughter went on to tell me that she had gone back to Dr R's website and even had a movie of the surgery. I was impressed that she had really done her homework. She finally said to me - " Mom, I am really proud of you for having the surgery. " I had to cry - this from the daughter who normally I have to pry things out of!! Dr R - you really are and unbelieveable man!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!
