9 Month Update

Saturday was my 9 month anniversary. I lost 4 pounds last month to put me

consistently at 130. I'm 5'3 1/2 " and am wearing size 6. It really is hard

to believe. I am now half of who I was before. I've saved one pair of

pants from " before " and they are stretchy 22s that I was too big for at one

point.

I literally cried the first time I put them on again, which was at about 145

pounds.

Today is my 35th birthday and I feel and look better than I have since I was

21. After 21 and my kids, I went downhill as my weight went up.

I have had no problems whatsoever.

Wow Glenda, great weightloss!

Sorry about the beef issue...I only eat red meat ground and in spagetti or

such and NOT very often. I LOVE baked or rotesseried chicken without the

skin...YUMMIER and easier to digest!

Glenda,

WAAAA HOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! 107 pounds!!!!!!!!!! That's great!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like an AWFUL experience with beef. Do you do okay with any other meat

products (i.e. chicken, turkey, etc.)?

Today is 9 mo for me. I am down 107 lbs. I am exercising at curves and or

walking several times weekly. I can not eat beef at all. The last time I

tried and it was just 2 weeks ago I was in severe abdominal pain for about 4

days. I had sudden attacks of nausea and immediately began to throw up.

Nothing much came up but the episodes were quite violent and sudden. I

vomited about 6 times in on day. This was the first time for me to be

nauseated and vomit since my surgery. It was not until the next day that I

got sick. All of my abdomen from my navel to my ribs and from one side to

the other was very tender and sore. It felt like the the inside of my

stomach and upper intestines were raw. I was afraid I was going to end up

in the ER and probably should have I could not drink or eat without pain and

spasms. Of course Dr. R was out of town and my Dr was also out of town. So I

just started my carafate, Mylanta, sipped fluids and waited it out. It did

cool down after 4 days. I will not be eating any more beef!!!!!

I am overall very happy with my surgery. All my labs are good except my iron

is very low hemoglobin is 9.1 and the ferritin portion of my blood was 5. I

am taking iron Hemocyte 325mg 3 x a day. I am hoping this will get my into a

better range. My energy had really gone bye bye. I may be beginning to

improve a little or my body is adjusting to it. My GYN also put me on some

hormones and I am just sweating it out to see if it causes me to gain wt. By

the was I have very little estrogen left. I am now supposed to be (by the

blood work) menopausal. But still having those irregular monthly things.

I am almost 47 in case someone is wondering.

, I can tolerate most other meats ex chicken, fish. I can eat some

cheese but not is too large amts. Over all I do well with what I eat except

for BEEF. I try not to eat fried foods but have eaten some without toooo

much trouble. My favorites are still fruits, esp watermelon.

Yeah Jenn...great news all around.

9 month update

Hi all!

Yesterday was a very long and busy day. I saw both my pulmonologist

(my old PCP) and my new PCP.

Dr. Gillespie, my new PCP, and I talked about recent changes, for the

worse, in my chronic pain, mental sharpness, and fatigue

(fibro/chronic pain related, not MGB related). He gave me a referral

to a pain clinic that works with a lot of fibromyalgia patients. Any

help would be welcome at present. We also went over the results of

nutritional tests my pulmonary doctor had done at my 6 month point.

Everything there looks great, including my liver enzymes that are now

NORMAL!!!! He is very encouraged by my weight loss and associated

good health changes in that area. He enjoys following his only MGB

patient. I told him about the recent paper on the MGB, and he said

he would look it up that night. :)

My visit with Marty, my lung doctor, went well. My asthma has been

in total remission since about a month after surgery. HOORAY!! (And

I'm usually admitted to the hospital at least 2 times a year for

it!) I really love this doctor... we've spent many a long night

together in the ICU trying to help people breathe better... or making

them breathe at all in a " code blue " situation. (I used to be a

respiratory therapist... specialized in ICU life support.) His

appearance and stature reminds me of a very tall Barney Rubble. (I'm

not kidding! LOL)

Anyway.... I told him about my chronic pain stuff and the pain clinic

referral, since he really is acting as my 2nd PCP, and he was glad to

hear of the referral. I also told him of my 1 year clinic

appointment with Dr. R. He is going to send with me copies of all my

recent labwork. Oh, yeah... again he expressed he wished he knew of

the MGB before his father, a neurosurgeon, had an open RNY.

After the appointments, Cat and I drove down to Redding, CA, (a

loooong and painful 8 hour drive, not including stops to stretch) to

help her mom out with some stuff that has needed to be done since the

death of her husband last February.

Anyway.... my big drumroll.... I weighed exactly the same on one

doctor's scale as I did on the other's.... so I'm sure of the

accuracy.

I weighed in at 194!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is 106 pounds gone!!!!!!!!

Additionally, I lost 9 pounds in my 9th month postop!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, with great satisfaction and a lot of celebration, I sign off for

now.

*grinning and doing a happy dance*
