Guest guest
beth, honey, you HAVE lost a LOT of weight!! Your body must adjust to such a drastic loss even if you were a lot heavier at surgery than i was! i have already had 2 (count 'em) TWO plateaus in excess of 6 weeks!! and i began my journey after you did. i was sure this was " it " for me each time. certain i would not lose anymore. but i did and i am. you have up to 2 years to lose weight with MGB although i have heard a couple say that at more than 2 years out they still lose about a pound a month. don't cry beth. sure i was desperately upset when i weighed what you do now, however if i had gained much more....i would have died from the diabetes that already had stolen much of my eyesight and had my feet numb due to lack of circulation. it is going to be ok honey......you have at LEAST another year before you have to panic and decide you need a revision. hang in there sweetie. i hope this helps.....you are not alone and we are all pulling for you! be well xoxoxo cathy s in va 11-16-00 > Beth, > Gee our stories are identical!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
Hey Dinah, Go ahead sweetie rain all you want if it will help, I have a big umbrella **smile** I'm in the same boat! I really think Dr. R may have backed off on the bypass amount last summer! LOL Most of us slow losers seem to be around that date! Of course there are a lot of great losers from that time also, so maybe not!! **smile** I guess there are some of us God just wants to stay fat! Gee, I had such high hopes this surgery would deal with it for me. Some people seem to lose so effortlessly while others of us struggle for each pound! I've told ya'll this before but I know a local lady who promised Dr. R she would do all the right stuff if he would give her the opportunity for the surgery, and you guys know it, she had her surgery 8/2000 and has already lost 145 pounds and does everything wrong! This is sooooooooo not fair! She never takes Tums, never drinks Citrucel, takes vitamins " when she thinks of it " and lives on junk food (breakfast for her is a Pepsi and a bag of chips, while I choke down oatmeal and Citrucel) and quote " use to walk 2 miles a day, but now I'm too lazy " I wish I had her surgery, I would have appreciated, (I promise Dr. R!!!!!!!!!) Mine has worked to the tune of about 80 pounds, but with 120 left to go, doesn't look to promising. Ok Dianh, do you feel any better, I rained too! Guest guest
Have you talked with DrR? What has he said? I feel so bad for you. But if you need to unload, this is the place to do it. Teri ----Original Message Follows---- From: " Dinah Boatwright " <dinah@...> Reply- Subject: Long Plateau!!! Date: Tue, 05 Jun 2001 02:23:31 -0000 My plateau has lasted since Jan 30th, 2000. I had surgery on Aug 16, 2000 and have lost a total of 50#'s. I do not feel I eat too much, or the wrong things. I exercise more than I used too, but not as much as I think I should. I have tried protein drinks religiously. I have recently tried to " diet " ! I don't know why, it never worked for me before, but I feel I must do something to lose more weight! I was always afraid I would be one of the ones to fail at losing weight after surgery, I am beginning to believe it may be true now! It is very depressing and I try not to dwell on it. Doesn't work very well though. We went swimming at a friend house this weekend and she e- mailed me some pics she took around the pool. THAT was really depressing...I thought I had made some real progress, but it seems the pics speak the real truth. Sorry to rain on everyone's parade but I needed to unload! Too much going on right now to keep this all to myself! Sorry. Guest guest
Liz, Have you compared how much was bypassed? I would love to see the stats side by side compared with that factor only.... I asked Dr. Quattlebaum if he did 4-8 feet and he was adamant that he would do 6 ft on each and every patient. He gives his patients video tapes of the surgery, and you can COUNT with him how much he bypasses....so I know I have 6 ft. in Ark
Guest guest
Hey Dinah and Rosemary, I also wish I had done better and I am on the slow end of loosing. I must admit; however, that IN MY CASE, I know what I need to do, which is diet and exercise and when I do both, I'll see a loss, and when I do neither, I just don't loose anything. I have spoken to those other folks who do all the " wrong " things and loose weight effortlessly, but that is them, I know what will work for me, the problem with me is, I don't have the willpower to diet and exercise, hence this surgery!!!!! Maybe we all need to discover what will work for us individually???? I don't know what the answer is, but maybe we need to try different things like protein for a while or no fats for a while or some damned combination of efforts for each of us as we are all sooooooooooo different. Guest guest
Rosemary, I am a " once a day or I'm sick " type of bowl gal, so holding it longer may not be the issue, also, I started having a weight problem at 20 years old, I was OK before then. I am on antidepressants and I have had a hysterectomy, could those issues be causes????????????? Also, my surgery was last summer, July 21, 2000, maybe he was experimenting with us summer gals??????????? I really doubt it but who knows. I feel the same about the revision, the insurance denial on the doctors part would preclude me from having that. I do feel positive however, when I read about someone way out like two years and they have done well, maybe we just need more time????????????? Re: Re: Long Plateau!!! Beth, Gee our stories are identical!!!!!!!!! You wrote exactly what I have felt! Luckily I didn't have to mortgage my home though, Dr. R was taking insurance when I had my surgery. So I know I will never be able to have the revision, which I obviously need since he will no longer take insurance. I don't think my slow weight loss has anything to do with my food intake. I really sincerely feel it has something to do with the amount of intestines bypassed too! I wish I could express my thoughts about this better but here goes...... maybe the slow losers are ones who have been morbidly obese all of their life and maybe when Dr. R judges the amount to bypass he is not taking into account that something is already wrong in our intestines????????Maybe our bodies have already adjusted to absorbing the calories farther down????????? I know nothing about medicine but I can't help but think it could be possible! My entire life (sorry) I have never had " normal " bowl habits. I would possibly have one or two movements a week. I know some of you are doctors and nurses out there and maybe you could email me privately and explain if this is possible???? Of course at this point it wouldn't help me, but maybe someone else once Dr. R starts back with his surgeries. Guest guest
Points back to my thinking of the summer of 2000 Dr. R must have backed off on the amount he bypassed??????????????
