Guest guest
Hey guys... Thanks to the No drinking I have finally broken that crazy plateau that I was on. I am extremely thirsty most of the time... if I do not drink a bunch 20 minuts before I eat...I think I am going to die without drinking after I eat. :::TIP::: My solution has been to take a mouth full of water and hold it in my mouth... swish it around then spit it out. Hey doing this once or twice usually helps the craving go away. I try to make it to 45 mins after eating anything solid. And hey I saw 5 more pounds disappear last week, Oh Please Lord Keep it coming off. :-) Hugs to all. Anita in Tucson AZ MGB 3-01-01 324/244.5 dropping down! ! ! YIPPEEEE ! ! ! ! Guest guest
, No, what it will do is flush the food out of our systems. We need those calories for our health, and also, it will make us lose the feeling of satiety quicker, making us eat MORE in the end. Some people do this on purpose, hoping to somehow " cheat " the system...they believe if they drink away the food, they lose the calories. But it is a no win situation. Long term, we hope to have modified, healthy eating habits. If we start trying to cheat our tool now, we are doomed in the future. While it is VERY hard to learn to not drink after meals or during meals (trust me, I was the queen of one bite one drink myself) it is DOABLE. I do not drink for a full hour after meals now, but at first I could only go for 30 minutes. And if I eat something very dry or say salad dressing, I will sometimes HAVE to take a small sip once in a while after only 15 minutes, but I try not to with all my might. For me, I believe it will make a difference in my future health AND future weight loss, and that gave me the initiative to go for it and stick to it. To me, it is like taking my vitamins~~a part of being the healthiest post op I can be. HUGS in Ark
Guest guest
, I agree with you. I don't know what the deal is about drinking and eating. I've heard so many different stories. What is the problem with drinking with meals or within one hour. Someone please respond and let and I know the reason for this rule. Guest guest
, I can eat a lot, and I mean a lot. I have no problem putting away a steak that is 9 oz when I have a glass of water with dinner. When I don't drink with meals I eat more like a " normal gb " person. I believe that the liquids wash the contents of the pouch faster enabling us to eat more, therefore we're compensating for the surgery and learning to eat around the pouch. manda > I guess I still don't really understand about not drinking after a meal. > Will it somehow mess up our pouch? inOK > > In a message dated 08/18/2001 3:59:25 PM Pacific Daylight Time, > Viligidiot@a... writes: > > << Tania, > > I am no expert but I wait 1 hr. after meals. That means we also will get hungry more quickly. That is what we are trying to avoid. If you drink about 15 minutes before you eat supposedly you will eat less. Guest guest
The gist of it was that the water moves the food out of your tummy faster, causing you to feel hungry sooner and eat more. If food stays in your stomach longer you get a more satisfied feeling and do not, or can not, eat more very soon. It is a matter of satiety, or the feeling of being full longer. Guest guest
Georgina, Thanks for this information. This mentioned not snacking between meals and I thought it was best for us MGB people to eat several small " meals " /snacks throughout the day. I don't snack much an normally just eat one " good " meal a day. I find that if I've eaten lunch, I can eat very, very little for dinner. in OK UNDERSTANDING THE FUNCTION OF THE SMALL GASTRIC POUCH; APPLICATION TO POST-OP TEACHING AND EVALUATION By Latham Flanagan, Jr., M.D., FACS THREE PRINCIPLES FOR GAINING AND MAINTAINING SATIETY 1. Guest guest
Thanks to everyone for the information about drinking after meals. My concern was that it could/would stretch the pouch... Glad that don't seem to be the case. Most of the time, I do not drink with meals, but sometimes seems like I can't help it. in OK
Guest guest
> Isn't Gatorade a high calorie liquid? > > Eileen > 1/3/02 Eileen: Yeah, kinda - but Gatorade has lower sugar levels than most juices, sodas, fruit and other drink blends and it has the added benefit of providing much needed nutrients to support electrolyte levels in the body. -Ginny I. 3/1/
Guest guest
I STRONGLY SECOND THE ADVICE. I have followed that religiously since surgery. I have told many folks that I don;t drink liquds for an hour before or an hour after eating. It helps me to stay and feel full longer. I have had people poo-poo the idea but the way I looked at it was if it works - DO IT! It was hard for me to do. I drank ALOT with meals - the iced tea king - unsweetended kind but glass after glass. But I also make sure to get an adequate amount of water intake. I find that if I don;t lose and have a more difficult time maintaining. JP From 600# to 182# by keeping it real!
