Guest guest
Diflucan 150 mg tablet, one dose, cures most yeast infections. For really bad and persistent ones, I give a Diflucan AND a 7-day course of Terazol vaginal cream to be used only at bedtime. If you use the cream in the morning or afternoon, it all ends up in your panties and won't work effectively. For other patients who are allergic to the antifungal creams, or when nothing else works, I paint the inside of their vagina and cervix with something called Gentian Violet. The good news is, this almost always works. The bad news is, it stains you very dark purple, and will come off in your panties and during sex... so your hubby/mate might come out with a purple... well... anyway.... Eating yogurt with active live cultures will help somewhat, too. As will a half cup of table salt in your bath water. No douches! They may only make it worse. I'd also recommend a microscopic wet prep be done by your doctor to be 100% sure that it's really a yeast infection. Bacterial Vaginosis is often mistaken for a yeast infection, but the treatment for it is totally different, and the antifungal creams won't help at all. BV is the most under-diagnosed vaginal problem, and lots of docs don't recognize it or treat it on a routine basis. If you continue to have problems and your doc isn't finding the solution, I highly recommend a female doctor or nurse practitioner to screen you for BV. By the way, BV is not a sexually transmitted disease... don't worry. For more information, check out: http://www.vaginalinfections.com/00f01.html I think all women should know what BV is, what factors increase our risk, the symptoms, and the cure. OK, getting off my vaginal soapbox. You men out there... sorry. <grin> I hope some of this info helps (KY) <--- the incredible shrinking midwife mgb 3-1-01 334-268-??? Guest guest
I'm surprised that you didn't mention acidophilis capsules to aid in curing and also preventing yeast infections. I was a diabetic for 10 years and had way too much experience with yeast infections. For those of you not familiar with acidophilis it is the good bacteria that lives in your body to combat infections and illness. It is the live cultures they talk about in yogurt. You can buy acidophilis tablets or capsules at any health food store. They are cheap, have no taste and cannot hurt you. I take 2 every day for prevention of any illness. It REALLY helps. In fact, studies were being done to see how effective it was in fighting yeast infections and the results were so amazing that they stopped the studies in the middle in order to give both groups of women the acidophilis. They felt it was unfair to withhold this treatment from the control group that had been receiving the placebo. Just throwing my 2 cents in! Guest guest
Yep, acidophilus caps will help too... I just prefer to encourage active culture yogurt for MGBers since Dr. R loves for us to eat the stuff anyway. <grin> Re: strep throat and > > amoxicillan > > > > > > > In a message dated 6/12/01 1:49:07 AM Eastern > > Daylight Time, > > > iseeu25232@... writes: > > > > > > > > > > , > > > > I once asked Dr. R. about the antibiotics and he > > said that we take them > > as > > > > we > > > > normally would have and that they dont mal > > absorb. > > > > Pat i > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > WOMAN ONLY - MEN READ AT YOUR OWN RISK OF HAVING > > TOO MUCH > > INFORMATION ----- > > > > > > I too took antibiotics for a sinus infection about > > 2-3 months ago. Guest guest
Ask your pharmacist for some OTC " good bacteria " . It is refrigerated and there are a couple of brand names. If you have recurrent yeast infections it is very important to take this " good bacteria " ANY time you are on antibiotics!!
