Ray,

Well said. I, and I believe many others have asked Matt to " take a

breather " and stay. Hopefully he will!

Hi again Matt,

yes, I can hear your frustration. It echos many others in this group-the whole delay in diagnosis and misdiagnosis. Then more damage is done and people wish they had had a chance, often years and yearsearlier, to fix it then. I realize that I am reading all these horror stories but they are from people who ended up waiting too long. So you read my posts and wonder "what is she talking about? Why would she wait?" I understand this totally. Since being in this group and asking questions and listening carefully to all I have decided that I will proceed with the surgery, to avoid all that you all so eloquently describe. That's why I joined this group-to gather perspective where I may be missing it! I will also continue on my quest to understand the "why's" of cholesteatoma development and work on areas I feel of importance to perhaps keep the recurrance minimal. I realize that this may not be possible, but there is no harm in trying.

And Matt, I AM listening to our Otologist-asking questions and sharing concerns doesn't mean I'm ignoring medical advice. My son has been booked already for surgery and I haven't cancelled it-I'm just using the waiting time to learn more and understand the after affects so I can support my son. And if anyone had a "viable alternative" I would want to hear that too! Please don't feel that I am being negligent-far from it! And

I guess you owe your co-worker with the speakers a big favour!

Hope this clears things up for you somewhat. I am not just sitting here and piddling around on the internet and delaying getting help for my son. I have been proactive since he was a baby on every front-we only got, with my pushing, to the Otologist early this year-he's been seen 2 or 3 times and we booked surgery on the last visit. It's the last week of August-my son is enjoying his summer, healthy and well, swimming a bit and doing all the things an active 11 year old likes to do-hopefully he'll recover well in time for the school start the 2nd week in September. So after spending a month or so of book-research I hit the net for more info, and eventually made my way to this group to get the "human" perspective. It's been so valuable and I'm so grateful I "met" so many of the group. Perhaps you mistook my interest in getting to the bottom of the "whys" for an inability to see the necessity of dealing with "what is".

Anyways, thanks again! I'll let the group know how it all turns out. I'm guessing I may be reaching out for after care advice at some point too! Hopefully, one day I'll be able to return the favour to someone else! Take care Matt.Denna Poulos
