I haven't been on here in a long while. I had my surgery 2 years ago. Some

erosion of one of the bones, and they were " stuck " and not moving properly. So,

c-toma was removed, the " nub " on one of the bones was smoothed and the bones

" loosened " and ear drum fixed. I had only slight improvement right after the

surgery and one year later my hearing degraded some. The doc thought it was

most likely due to the bones fusing together again. So, now he is suggesting

that he go in and remove the middle bone and put in a prosthetic. I forgot to

ask him a couple of questions when I was there, and before I call with my

questions I wanted to get feedback from you all about what else I should be

aware of.

He says there is a 2% rejection rate of the titanium " bone. " What happens if I

do reject the prosthetic bone? Would it have to be removed and then I'd be left

hearing less than I am now? Without any other options - only 2 good bones -

would they then have to be removed too?

I'd like to hear from anyone who's had a prosthetic ear bone/s and wondering how

it's going.

Anything else I should ask or consider before doing this surgery?

Doc said, after a year of me sitting and doing nothing, that he thought I should

do " something " either a hearing aid or the surgery, because in his words: I have

a perfectly capable ear that I could hear from if only I would get an hearing

aid or prosthetic. That made sense to me, I hadn't thought of it that way.

Instead I'm hearing like I'm under water in one ear and almost totally relying

on the one " good " ear.

He is a specialist and I do trust him. He said he felt he wasn't " aggressive

enough " the first surgery, trying to leave the one bone in place and working

with it. Hearing aid: 0% risk; Surgery: " low risk " whatever that means.

I'd appreciate any feedback or thoughts from you all who have been through this.
