Hi Sallie,

A second look procedure is common. If even one c-toma cell is left behind, it will regrow. Your mastoid look similar to a sponge, so there are lots of places for it to hide. CT scans can show a regrowth, but CT scans do not always tell the story.

Hope this is helpful (although another surgery is not something you look forward to).

Hi Sallie, Glad to hear your appointment went well. 's surgeon said he will go back in nine months or so too for a second look, too. He explained that if any tiny pieces were left, they would probably have grown enough to be visible by then, even though they try to get it all the first time. As I understand it, it's not possible to tell definitively from the ct scan, since ctoma (and any soft tissue)and fluid appear the same on the scan. post op appt; look see necessary? Thanks and . Yeh, MIchelle, it is the reality of the

surgery I dread. (this is for my 10 year old daughter) We are just

reoceveing from this one. It won't be for awhile. She is bit worn out and

the packing removal made her a bit dizzy. She is so extremely active.
