Guest guest
Hi - I am new to the Autism group in Cleveland , ohio . My son jake has autism . fragile x. it is nice to now that i am not alone. just wondered if anyone organized a moms night out , b/c i now from time to time we moms need breaks . let me know if anyone would be interested or even planning an activity with the kids .. thanks kelly burton becky griggs <sleeplessohio@...> wrote: Hi AllWell we survived and are back in one piece, though I sure could use a long nap! We camped at Findley State park and the weather was great. The nice thing about camping in the middle of the week is it is cheaper and not crowded. I think in our area there was 5 other families camping and we were all spread out. We got there and set up camp. The kids went looking around the campsite and the 2 around us for kinling for the fire. Once we had the tent set up Bob took the boys to the woods to look for bigger pieces of wood. Of course when you put 3 males togther in the woods they have to "mark their terriorty" I told Bob that Tricia (Nicky's mom and our dauther) was going to kill him. It took her 4 months to break him from going to the bathroom outside. I swear once Dad/Grandpa made it okay to pee in the woods the boys had to go pee every 20 minutes. I warned Bob the if start peeing against the trees in our backyard he was going to be in bigger trouble with me. earned his fireman chip at boy scout camp this summer so he showed off his campfire build skills, and I have to say we were both very impressed. We made homemade ice cream. SUPER EASY AND FUN. You do it in zip lock bags. In a small zip lock bag you put 1/2 cup milk, 1 tablespoon sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon vanillia, than seal. Place it in a 1 gallon ziplock bag and add ice to about the 1/2 way point. Add 6 tablespoon salt ( I used kosher salt) and shake your little heart out for @ 10 minutes. Take the little bag out and you have ice cream. The kids loved it! Of course what is camping without Smores! made campfire apple crisp. You take your skillit and add 1 stick butter till melted. add @ 12 crushed gramham crackers (he used the cinaman gramham crackers) press to sind of pan. add can of apple pie filling. melt 1/2 stick butter and add 6 gramham crakers, extra cinnaman and sugar to taste and sprinkle on top. COver with foil and put on campfire. It took about 40 minutes to get out all the way through but tasted good, not as good as homemade but hey we were camping. We went for a hike and I think Bob got us lost and would not admit it. It took forever! Poor was seriously pooped! At one point he stopped to drink some water (Mind you he NEVER wants to drink water) took a big drink and laid down. covered his face with a wash clothe and said he was to pooped to do this. He looked so cute, we took a 30 minute break and he was ready to go. loves camping and for whatever reason he is so very comfy doing it. Things don't seem to bother him as much. Though he does have to have his sensory deep presure through ou the day but not the issues that I fear. The Grandkids had a blast and wanted to move in the park. said his Mommy & Daddy could bring him his bed and visit him. We brought some of the pearch the boys had caught earlier this summer and fried it p over the camp fire to., It was great. They were thrilled that they had there 1st fish fry with their own fish. It was funny becasue and the grandkids named their fish as they caught them and would say brefore casting their line "Hereee, fisht, fishy, fishy, bite my hooky, hooky, hooky, I want you for dinner, dinner, dinner" SO during dinner started with saying this piece is from the the fish he named "to late for dinner" ( he names his fish dinner, to late for dinner, sandwish, snack, midnight raid, lunch etc) Nicky sai dhe ate Fred, Elmo an dCookie MOnster, said he ate head, eyeball and tail. Wednesday morning at 6:11 Bob and I are woken with all 3 boys looking out the tent window saying "DO you hear that? Is that a bird?", "No it is a coyateo", "No it's not it is a bear, I see red eyes" LOL. I told Bob before we take them all camping again we will need to get a second tent our one of those tents with 2 room connectd with a tunnel. All 5 of us in 1 tent with 2 queen size blow up mattresses left no room to move. Bob & I are thinkiing of taking back to Hocking Hills is Spetember. and I went with Scouts last summer for 3 days and we loved it. Bob had to work so he missed it. We are thinking of going back so can show Dad all the neat stuff that made him laugh. Like the area in the one hike trail called "Devil toliet" I tell you when he was told that is what it was called the whole hike had to stop for an hour. It took me that long to get him to get it all out and not have ot keep talking about how funny that is. It was to the point eveyone was laughing. Well, now I have to get the fun stuff finished, yes the never ending loads of laundry that comes with camping. And get ready for eval tomoorw with CareStar. It took about 40 minutes to get out all the way through but tasted good, not as good as homemade but hey we were camping.> > We went for a hike and I think Bob got us lost and would not admit it. It took forever! Poor was seriously pooped! At one point he stopped to drink some water (Mind you he NEVER wants to drink water) took a big drink and laid down. covered his face with a wash clothe and said he was to pooped to do this. He looked so cute, we took a 30 minute break and he was ready to go.> > loves camping and for whatever reason he is so very comfy doing it. It was funny becasue and the grandkids named their fish as they caught them and would say brefore casting their line "Hereee, fisht, fishy, fishy, bite my hooky, hooky, hooky, I want you for dinner, dinner, dinner" SO during dinner started with saying this piece is from the the fish he named "to late for dinner" ( he names his fish dinner, to late for dinner, sandwish, snack, midnight raid, lunch etc) Nicky sai dhe ate Fred, Elmo an dCookie MOnster, said he ate head, eyeball and tail.> > Wednesday morning at 6:11 Bob and I are woken with all 3 boys looking out the tent window saying "DO you hear that? I told Bob before we take them all camping again we will need to get a second tent our one of those tents with 2 room connectd with a tunnel. It was to the point eveyone was laughing.> > Well, now I have to get the fun stuff finished, yes the never ending loads of laundry that comes with camping. And get ready for eval tomoorw with CareStar. Guest guest
Hi Patti, I'm Jackie. We meet at the meeting where Sondra gave her inspirational talk about herself. My husband and I are new to the group and have a schedule conflict with most Wednesday nights. So, I agree a Moms' day out would be great. It would be easier for me if it was during school hours. Is that good for you and the other Moms? Being new in the area I am sure is not easy and it making new friends is important. I have been there! The more Moms the merrier. Guest guest
Hi Jackie! I was hoping I'd meet you here! We sat next to you and your hubby that night, right? Sorry, I forgot to get your name.... Yes, nights are hard for us as well, as we scheduled gym times at night. So, I'd like to do something during the day, preferably when is in school, as that's a good rest time for me. Great to hear from you!
