I am 32 years old and for about the last 20 of those I had more ear infections than I can count leading to (Finally!) the diagnosis of cholesteatoma in February earlier this year. In March I had my ctoma removed. It had eroded two of my hearing bones, went through my mastoid bone and also eroded part of my tegman (membrane between the mastoid and the brain).
