Guest guest
Hi Everone, I went yesterday for my first surgical followup. The doc didn't remove all the packing. Boo. Wanted to wait another week. He did however take out the most annoying peice so I am more comfortable. He explained what he did when he was in there. He said that since the ctoma was up high in the attic, he had to remove some bone in order to access it. My one remaining hearing bone (which was non functioning anyway) was eroded from the ctoma. He grafted cartilidge to cover where the bone was cut away in the attic. Then he grafted a new ear drum and put in a prosthesis made of teflon and something else (?) anchoring it to the back of the middle ear. I asked him what the success rate was for someone with my history. He told me 70%. Okay, it's better than 50%. I also asked him about flying -- since I have trip paid for on January 2nd. He said that he could tell me next week when he takes the remainer of the packing out. At this point, he believes I will be able to fly. If worse comes to work, I take the Amtrak. I'm feeling really great! I still have a lot of tinnitus (both ringing and buzzing), but otherwise feel like my old self less than two weeks post surgery. Good luck to everyone with surgeries this week. Connie
