Charmaine and others going for surgery,

I had my surgery in Sept. 03. I was in the hospital for 3 days - I actually requested the extra day because I wasn't comfortable with my breathing and the hospital is over an hour from my home. I was doing some walking the day after, but it was really about a week and a half before walking was pretty normal. In my case, spasms weren't at all different than before. I was on a liquid diet for 2 weeks post-op, then started adding stuff slowly, as I felt I could. After about 2 months, I was eating pretty much anything - and still am(1 dilation later).

I wish you the best of luck. My prayers are with you for a successful operation andd speedy recovery!

Charmaine --

I haven't had surgery so can't comment on your questions, but just wanted to tell you how happy I am for you that you will soon find relief!Debbi in Michigan

Hi EveryoneI just wanted to let you all know that I'm scheduled to have my lap Heller on 1 June. I'll be having my surgery performed by Dr Bessell (who has recently joined our group and posted a very informative article on Achalasia) in Adelaide.I was wondering if I could trouble those of you who have had a Lap Myotomy for some advice. How long before you were walking around comfortably post-op? How long was your hospital stay? Were your spasms (if you suffer from them)worse or less frequent post op. And finally, how long before you were eating solids? If I could get as many replies as possible I can get an idea of what to expect.Cheers everyoneCharmaine in Liverpool, UK

Congrats on the scheduling of your heller. Dr. Rice is very

caring and attentive. You will not regret him for a dr, nor will you

regret your surgery. Good luck on the surgery and the recovery. I

will be thinking of you. I may be laying on the beach that day, but

none the less I WILL BE THINKING OF YOU. =]

Dawn in Ohio...wow...its really sunny and nice today!

I'm so happy your consultation with Dr. Rice went well! He really

seems like a caring guy and has the reputation as an excellent

surgeon. Here's hoping you have a very successful surgery next month

and get back to enjoying life!

> OK.? I had the consultation today and scheduled the surgery for 8/28.

I just marked it on my calendar.

? I could have had it for 8/14 but with a trip in there to see hunny, I

didn't want any residual effects hampering the mood.

Your trip is before the surgery, right? I can't keep track of everyone's

vacation time, even our own. I forgot Ed is off next week - but didn't

forget my follow up doctor visit on Monday. Ack!

> So, I went in and did the blood draw and pee test for the labs today

and will pick up the prescribed meds the day or two before so I am set.

So early? Around here they have to be done wihtin 5 days of surgery for

any elective procedure.

** Not sure what they are looking for: CBC (blood test) and UA were requested and the surgery scheduling lady said I could do it whenever I wanted, even that day, so I did.

Just making sure there's nothing wrong with you that would prevent you

from having the surgery, like anemia, a bladder infection, etc. All

routine before *any* surgery.

Hello All,

Just got back from Portland after seeing Dr. McMenomey. Larry is getting the

best Christmas present ever. His surgery (5th surgery, 3rd on right ear) is

scheduled for Dec. 24. On the bright side the doctor thinks this one is very

small and he said he should be able to go through the ear, not behind it.
