Louree,

If you care, I can share the photo of my post surgery, offline of course to your personal e-mail. I did get my hair cut before the surgery. They still shaved but with having my hair short on the sides, it grew out quick. Fill him up with good food the day before, but also know of when he can't have any food or liquids several hours before surgery. His jaw may hurt after the surgery for a couple of days. Buy some of the yougurt sticks, hope he likes yougurt, and freeze them.

Good luck!

Nate....

Son scheduled finally!

Well finally after a month and a half I got a date for my son's surgery. He is scheduled Sept 27. I am going to drive up to Utah probably the 25th so I can spend the 26th with him. I havent decided what we are gonna do except maybe some shopping and going out to lunch. For those males who've had the surgery, do you suggest getting your hair cut the day before? I know they are gonna shave behind his ear. Thought maybe a crew cut would be decent for the time being. One thing I am concerned about though is that he might be coming back to Arizona soon and I have read he can't fly afterwards for 3 months. I don't see him being able to handle a 17 hour bus ride either. I called a local otologists office to see if they could look at my sons records and tell me if the dr thinks that my son can wait until he comes back to Arizona, but the office person said that he would have to see my son first

before he could make that determination and that right now hes scheduling surgery into November. So if we wait for him to come home in Novemember he's probably looking at January or so for the surgery. It's frustrating to have to deal with this. But right now I think I am just going to go ahead with the surgery up in Utah. I would rather do it sooner than later. We can figure out how to get him home later even if I have to drive up there to get him.Well theres the update. I hope you all have a great day.Louree

Nate,

I would appreciate seeing the photo if you dont mind. Please send it to regan-etal@.... I would love to see what you did to your hair. I contemplated letting him get a mohawk but schools in so thats not the best idea. I don't think his teachers would appreciate the distraction. :)

BTW, he will eat anything. I have never heard of yogurt sticks is there a brand for those?

Thanks

Louree

Nate,

I have a 7yo son who had this sx over the summer. We cut his hair in a high and tight like a military hair cut but it is not necessary because the incision is in the fold behind the ear. It makes it easier to keep the hair clean and out of the way. As few weeks later we gave him a mohawk, but it was summertime so we could get away with it! Good luck, the first few days were hard for us, then he was back to normal. Kids are amazing.

My son found out that leaving his hair a little longer would actually hide what was shaved which is usually very small and sometimes not at all.
