Guest guest
That was me...and it was the worst part of it all. Very painful and the drainage was gross! They had to create a drainage incision...UGH! I still don't feel " all better " ...My ear felt fine B4 surgery so it's harder to deal with it. My ear constantly feels pressure like on an airplane waiting for it to pop. Annoying, overly sensitive skin, rolling feeling under the skin, A bony area sticking out behind my ear. Dr. Said everything looks great...I miss feeling normal. I don't complain to friends, family, co-workers since it all looks fine to them now the bandages and swelling are gone. I guess I'm stuck with it. Guest guest
Visited Dr's, have developed an infection and now on a course of antibiotics for the next week. Got to watch for any other signs in the next 48 hrs and if it gets any worse to go back and then back to ENT, packing may have to come out. Does anybody know if the packing comes out after a week and a half does this affect the recovery or do they put more back in? > > Someone complained about this several weeks ago and they ended up having a staph infection - I would call the doctor for sure tomorrow. > > > > > ________________________________ > From: dave705727 <middx23@...> > cholesteatoma > Sent: Sun, January 24, 2010 6:28:02 PM > Subject: Recovery > >  > I ampast my first week of recovery and still getting quite a bit of pain. Guest guest
Joanne, If it makes you feel any better, I had surgery Aug. 17 and complained of all the symptoms you are describing, and things are starting to feel better. I wouldn't say normal, but better. I can finally lay on that ear, although it is still super sensitive. The big bony area behind the ear is starting to feel like it's part of me again if that makes sense. As far as the plugged up feeling- that is still there, but i had that feeling before surgery. My doc said everything looks great, just give it time. I just didn't realize he meant this much time- it has been 51/2 months! But to give you hope, I do feel better. I hope that makes you feel a little bit better- we all heal differently but I understand exactly what you are saying. I have come to the conclusion that this may just be my new "normal". I have become used to the plugged up feeling and ringing. Take care! Guest guest
After both my surgeries to remove C-toma I was back to normal by week two, however I still had the stitches and packing in my ear. When I had surgery the first time, I had dizziness for two weeks. He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it. 1 Th 5:24Sent from my iPhone On Feb 22, 2010, at 1:46 PM, "kalpanallan" <kalpanallan@...> wrote: Hi All, Just wanted to find out how long the recovery period is...meaning after surgery until I am completely back on my feet again and driving around etc? thanks. Guest guest
I was very tired for about a week, but feeling much better after that. I had eight surgeries, four in each ear, during my 20s, so with each surgery it really depended on the extent of the surgery, and it seemed my tolerance for pain increased as I went too. Dizziness was always my most irritating issue while recovering.

Guest guest
Hi , I'm doing much better and am back at work today. It was almost like magic, once I got past the one-week time slot, I suddenly felt 100 times better. I haven't needed a pain or dizziness pill since Friday. Friday I felt lousy still, and Saturday I woke up and felt almost normal again. I'm going to take off the bandage today. The only weird thing now is that when I swallow, I often hear a crackling/popping noise in the implanted ear. When that happens, every so often, my voice and breathing (all the sounds inside my head) will get really loud and sort of echo-ey in the implanted ear. It is the weirdest sensation to suddenly hear my own voice in that ear really loudly. It almost feels like when that popping sound happens, something is shifting in there and causing the sound of my voice to be really loud, even though I didn't think there WAS any sound in there besides my tinnitus. I don't know if that makes any sense at all, but I think I will email my doctor about it today. Otherwise, I'm doing very well, finally! Thanks for checking in. Hope you're continuing to improve and still doing great. Have you been able to wash your hair yet?? My doctor told me it would be okay after 3 days and that was hard enough! - ________________________________ From: Ortis <qglphx1@...> Sent: Mon, March 8, 2010 9:24:55 AM Subject: Re: Re: Recovery , How are you doing? Guest guest
My husband has had 2 implants done. The first one it took him about a week to get back to normal. The second one he was back to work in 3 days. (surgery Monday, back to work on Thursday), since he could hear with the other implant already. When he had the first one done, he could barely hear out of the other ear, so he didn't want to go back as soon either. When he had the second one done, the first one was doing so good, and he was feeling great, he decided to go ahead and go back to work. He only took pain pills one day after the second surgery, and Tylenol the second day. BUT THEN, everyone has their own pace that they recover.  He took his bandage off the next day after surgery, and washed his hair then too......  I hope that ya'll have a speedy recovery....   From: Yuan <lisayuan3@...> Subject: Re: Re: Recovery Date: Monday, March 8, 2010, 1:30 PM  Hi , I'm doing much better and am back at work today.
