If your eardrum is intact, maybe you have fluid behind your eardrum from the sinus infection, and it is distorting the sound. I had surgery a year ago, and my ear has not been reconstructed, so I don't have much hearing in that ear and also constant ringing. But when I get a cold or sinus trouble, the ringing can get much worse. So that may be the problem.
