Guest guest
I had a c-toma removed with a graft to repair the remaining hole on my eardrum, and was O.K.'d to fly just two weeks after surgery. I was scared to death, because I always have had MUCH pain when I fly. My ears just do not ever seem to clear (I can hold my nose and blow until I am beet red, and the ears won't " pop " ). But the funny thing was, after surgery, the c-toma ear finally " popped " on the descent into Phoenix. But my " good " ear remained painful for a day or two. Go figure... I wondered, I am not sure if I do have a C-Toma but would it still be alright for me to pop my ear if I'm not sure what it is in there??? I will find out on the 22nd.. but the way the other ENT's have made it sound, I will need surgury- Also I wondered if anyone was told not to fly after their surgury? My husband and I were going to see his dad and his brother perform at an archery competition in Las Vegas- but I wondered if I'd be able to fly afterward? I'm not even sure of the date, but was anyone notified if they could or could not fly??? > GTW9356@a... wrote:I hear that sound when my ears have fluid in them. You will more than make up the lost time just in the commute from LAX to Bakersfield. Unless you land very late at night or early in the morning, you are looking at a three to four hour road trip through some of the worst traffic in CA. I know, I used to drive for the airport bus service out of Bakersfield to LAX. Even in my personal car, the best time I was ever able to do between the two points was two hours at 2AM. (We can drive from Sacramento to Delano in less time and that's a 250 mile trip as opposed to 135 from LAX.) Our son used to live in Long Beach. We dreaded having to drive through the LA area to visit. It usually took us as long or longer to get from Magic Mountain (north end of the LA area) to Long Beach as it did to get from Sacramento to Magic Mountain, about 325 miles. The last 90 miles were a real drag. From Meadows Field in Bakersfield, it's less than 30 minutes to Delano, about 25 miles. If you need more info on the local area, let me know. We lived there for over 10 years, after moving from Spring Green, WI. Marta, Pat, and a couple others on the list are also good sources for Bakersfield info. Guest guest
Kim, How many times are you going to Delano? You already went for a pre- op visit? When is your surgery? I thought you were the one on the revision list who is having surgery July 19. I am flying in on Wednesday and tentatively home on a Thursday. I am allowing for 14 days after surgery...7 in hospital and 7 in the hotel. Praying I won't get delayed!! I think both flights have their benefits. The one with a transfer has a benefit of not getting lost in LA and going directly to Bakersfield. Which means I will have a chance to get out of the plane and use the bathroom and walk a bit. The other one, of course, has the benefit of only a 4 hour travel time so I will be less tired. Of course, that doesn't include the drive back to LAX. Right now, I'm thinking I like the one into Bakersfield better. However, I have never flown 2 weeks after surgery and don't know how I will be feeling after such a major revision. I was uncomfortable sitting in a car for any length of time that soon after my previous surgeries. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Hugs, Laurie DS Revision 8/12/04 197 days to go!!! Guest guest
Also, Jimmy Dean didn't die at the tree. He died about a mile up the road. And it was the old road, not the one that is used today. Most people don't know about that. :-) But some of us smart asses never forget trivia we've learned along the roadside. The memorial is at that tree because it " was a nicer spot and won't effect traffic. Of course, I'm talking about the terminal and gates, not the runway. BFL's main runway is long enough to qualify as an emergency landing site for the space shuttle!! However, I wouldn't want to be working the noise complaint phones after that.
