I don't know, honestly, but I would really guess you could not specify anything about the rest of the classroom make up except to say "regular Ed" vs. resource room or similar. I do know we can put ratios such as "small group" or "1-1" in the IEP. So I wonder why not this. Interesting question! You could probably control your child having access to the aide. This post may be no help at all. sorry. But do post what you find out - it's a great question that I would like to know the answer to!

Hi everyone,

I wondered if anyone knows if you can write into an IEP how many

children with disabilities can be in my child's regular ed

classroom. The reason being is that last year there were 5 kids

with pretty significant issues in the regular ed room with a total

of 25-26 kids. Needless to say, my son didn't spend much time in

there and I was very upset. We went to great lengths--even keeping

him back in the 1st grade because the ratios of special needs kids

were lower in the new class, to prevent this from happening. Well---

wouldn't you know it, they transferred kids with special needs from

other buildings into his regular ed room over the summer!! When we

started in the Fall, there were 4 (including him)kids with

significant issues in that class of 24 total kids. I was so upset,

but we met and were told by everyone involved that it was working

out. He is spending more time in the room this year, but I would

like it to be more.

Bottom line is, I would like to state it in the IEP about the ratios

in the regular ed room and wondered if anyone has done this or knows

how (and If) to do it. I would imagine it should be under the Least

Restrictive setting part. Sorry so long-------

Laurie,

I don't think you can say what the classroom ratio is per se, but there are ways around that problem. Using the LRE thoughts, you could ask that your son have a smaller classroom due to sensory probs. Too much going on at once is too distracting, maybe? Or ask for an aide.

HTH,
