Guest guest
LOL! Isn't life strangely wonderful. I have a very long pointless story I have to relay. For those of you with no patience for this, click on the delete button now. Otherwise, here it is, Hubby set me free for a few hours tonight so that I could catch the new film "United 93". While it wasn't the best film I have ever seen, It was the most amazing movie theater experience I have ever had. When the film ended there was complete silence. The feeling in the theater was palpable; a feeling of "we're all in this together" it was almost spooky to watch a group of strangers and how they came together in the last moments of their lives and there I was sitting with this group of strangers experiencing such extraordinary emotions together. I dunno, I can't really explain it. I strongly suggest that anyone who wants to see the film, do so in a theater. It was an incredible experience. THEN----breath--- I went for a coffee and I stood in line beside this man who looked familiar. Finally I asked (because if I couldn't figure out who he was I would lose sleep) and I asked him if I knew him from an autism group. He said no, but that he is a physician. Then I realized that he is the man responsible for saving my dad's life nine years ago. He is a cardiologist who performed five bypasses on my dad. Well, then he said that it was a strange coincidence because he is looking into doing hyperbaric oxygen therapy project for autism. I told him about my autism organization and asked him to keep me informed about it in the future. We may be getting somewhere locally with autism treatments ladies!!! See, I told you it was gonna be long and pointless. But, for some reason it makes me happy and hopeful that we are on the verge of blowing this whole autism thing wide open! Guest guest
, I don't know exactly where his practice is, but it would be easy to find out. I know he does surgeries at St. 's in Youngstown. We were in the coffee shop at Border's Bookstore and they were having an acoustic band play, so it was difficult to talk much. I do intend to follow up with him on the subject. Any advice on how to go about doing that? He made it sound as if it is in the very early stages and said that they are looking into the protocol for a research project in HBOT for autism. Sounds like it may be a while before it will actually be available. Ironically, I got an e-mial last night about HBOT. I'll forward the info in the link below if you're interested. Let me know what you think and how to approach the good doctor. BTW, His name is Dr. Woods, he's a cardiac surgeon. Guest guest
Good morning, , I do know that there are some considerations concerning HBOT as I have heard reports from parents that they can cause regressions and seizures. I think the contraindications are related to using HBOT before/or in the early stages of chelation, or that HBOT should only be used after chelation has been done for sometime. Having said that, I will admit to not researching it very well, besides the parent reports, which I put a great deal of faith in. VERY cautious here, as I know you are. Wondering out loud now what the connection between HBOT and cardiology? Or why the dr is interested in autism? Would love the link, if that is not what you have provided, but only would feel comfortable if the HBOT people have developed a list of instances for which HBOT is contraindicated, or times when HBOT should not be used. One of the problems we have dealt with, are still dealing with is oxidative stress and getting enough oxygen where she needs it. It has ameliorated somewhat with chelation, but still a problem, so thinking HBOT would be advantageous, but not one to jump in on anything until a LOT of people have gone before. And I do know him, Dr. Woods that is, he performed a procedure on my husband a couple of years ago. Other than checking back with him in a couple of months and providing him with some information on other protocols for HBOT research, I can't think of anything else off the top of my head. Maybe an offer to do some of the research? I will think about it some more. ----- Original Message ----- From: rmaher1969@... Guest guest
There is also an HBOT-Autism group, I think, anybody have anymore time to read another list? I generally find the specific lists a less reliable place to get good information as they are usually pro-whatever, but occasionally some brave person does report a problem. #2 ----- Original Message ----- From: rmaher1969@... Guest guest
, Same story here, I have heard of HBOT and know the basics, but I haven't researched it much and never really considered before b/c I figured I'd have to travel to New York or California for it and with everything else...who can afford it? I don't really know the connection between cardio/HBOT either. But, he told me that a local family who has a child with ASD knew about the HBOT lab and approached him about it for their child. That is how he became involved. I suppose HBOT must work for some with cardio problems? The link is the one I provided . I wrote to the woman who sent it out to me to tell her about Dr. Woods project. She told me to put him in touch with any local DAN! docs. I'm hesitant to do that, for reasons I'd rather not post here. I think I'll leave it to him, he obviously knows how to go about getting the info he needs for the research project. I'm more interested in when it might be available to families who may want to use this kind of therapy. I think I'll take your advice and wait a few months and contact him to find out how he is doing and if there is anyhting I can do to help. ----- Original Message ----- From: Cochran Sent: 4/29/2006 7:40:49 AM Subject: Re: [ ]Way off topic Good morning, , I do know that there are some considerations concerning HBOT as I have heard reports from parents that they can cause regressions and seizures. Guest guest
Latex makes it a lot easier. I'd still recommend washing it down with TSP or Spic & Span to give it a mild etch for the new paint or wash to stick to. It basically just de-glosses it. Make sure to rinse it real good if you do, though. The hard part about doing a wash over a very bright color is consistancy. Getting an even shade. It could take several coats to make it look even. Have fun! Peace, love, laughter Thanks , that is good news because it's latex. I'm taking the door off and will experiment on it. I was going to strip it anyway and have just a wood door to the outside. It would be a good place to try on washes. Shari ..
