I want to learn more about verbal behavior as the little guy I work with, while he can talk, doesn't. So I was wondering what else we can do to improve that. You never give the child a chance to get a answer wrong and you do not use the word "NO"... instead of waiting for the child to answer a question or telling them "NO, try again"...and then giving it to them you simply prompt if they do not answer you immediately...there is much more to this, but that is the easiest way for me to explain it. Is that the difference? I think I do this anyway. I've been teaching my friend how to say "yes" and "no" to questions and I have found the best way to do it is to give him the answer before he comes up with one on his own. Otherwise, we get sidetracked about what he answered being wrong instead of teaching him what I want him TO answer. Hope that made some sense. Anyway, I do think I am starting to get him to "get" it today and feel it is working. << Thank you for posting the link to the DAFEAT workshop...I am not very good on the computer...LOL. The only thing holding me back is the long drive. I am up here in Medina. Do we have a FEAT anywhere up this way or just yours? How do I register and what is the cost involved? I have started an organization locally and I would also be interested in having a FEAT locally. There is virtually no aba/vb services available in this area and there are many families interested in these services. ----- Original Message ----- From: Deborah Kadansky Sent: 5/21/2006 10:28:14 AM Subject: [ ] Fwd: Mand Training June 24 Hello. My name is Debbie Kadansky and I live in a suburb of Dayton called Bellbrook. I just recently joined your group. The reason for joining is I grew up in Cuyahoga County in Olmsted Falls. I still have family there and we visit as often as possible given our families crazy schedule. We have a son, 6, who is one the spectrum. We started ABA 2 and a half years ago and changed to Verbal Behavior summer of 2004. This has made a huge difference in his verbal skills. Along with VB, our son is GF/CF/SF and also corn, rice and potato free. I know...what does this kid eat...? Long story. We also started biomecial March of 2004. January 2006 we started utilizing the Autism Scholarship. The reason for my post is to introduce myself and to pass along a workshop opportunity here in Dayton. I belong and am very active in our local FEAT group, and thought maybe someone would be interested. Please feel free to email me privatley if you ahve any questions. Guest guest
Let's be very care here. This is how people become " campy " or " campish " . Misinformation hurts everyone. Errorless learning does NOT fall under the domain of either ABA or VB. Errorless learning is another 'learning principle' that is used by practioners of ABA which VB is a part of. The major difference is how they break up language. Mands, tacts and intraverbals vs. expressive and receptive language. Some ABA practicioners use VB termenology, some use the expressive/receptive termonology. This paradigm difference causes differnces in the progression of the program. Both the Cleveland Clinic and the Columbus Children's Hospitals ABA program which do not use VB use an errorless learning program. > In a message dated 5/21/2006 10:29:06 AM Eastern Standard Time, ddkadansky9901@... writes: > We have a son, 6, who is one the spectrum.
