Guest guest
Hi everyone I haven't posted much recently but I am still 'listening' and learning from you all, having been here for a few months now, and been through the c-toma experience (just the once - touch wood). Just thought I would pop in and let you know how things have gone... I had a follow up appointment today and my surgeon confirmed that the affected ear is now useful only for decoration, but that the hearing in the other ear is fine and likely to remain fine (hooray.) There was a polyp in the deaf ear, which he removed with silver nitrate, I think he said, (ow!) and I have to go back in six weeks as the ear isn't healing brilliantly. I have had some infection in the bad ear but apparently that can happen with a mastoid cavity and doesn't mean the c-toma is back. The good news is, my balance is almost back to normal (as predicted by Phil and others on this site a few months back). Having one deaf, tinnitus-y ear is proving ok, I don't notice it too much now. It doesn't interfere with work. Overall, considering the c-toma was quite nasty (I ended up in hospital on drips for a week before surgery), I think things have gone ok so far. Thanks for your support, Take care, Emma
