Guest guest
For those of you who had your hearing successfully restored through a prosthetic implant, how long did it take after the surgery until you noticed the hearing improvement? I'm about a week post surgery now and I'm wondering when I might start expecting to hear a difference.
Guest guest
Hi, I have not had my hearing successfully restored, but I was wondering if yours has yet. I am going to have survery in May to have a prosthesis put in and would also like to know how long it takes b/f my hearing will be restored. Thanks, Millie
Guest guest
Not yet, but it's less than two weeks since my surgery. What the doctor told me is that it can take several weeks, as things heal and the packing dissolves. That is, if it works at all - it's not certain to. I had a go at this once many years ago and it didn't work. I was looking for data points for how early or late it might happen, but doesn't sound like any satisfied prosthetic customers are reading right now. > > Hi, > > I have not had my hearing successfully restored, but I was wondering if > yours has yet. Guest guest
Hi, I have a middle hearing bone prosthesis. My hearing has been progressively getting since about week 5, it is now week eight. At my six week check up, my surgeon said my hearing should start getting better by week six and asked if mine was. Wow I thought, she has the time table down! Needless to say, she was pleased to learn my hearing started returning at week six. Rich > > > > Hi, > > > > I have not had my hearing successfully restored, but I was wondering if > > yours has yet. Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I was wondering what type of doctor was used for those of you had a prosthesis put in. Did you use an ENT or an otologist? Thanks, Millie
Guest guest
I've done both, but I went with an otologist this last time. I highly recommend going the otologist route. --- beachinthesummer <milliehol@...> wrote: > Hi Everyone, > > I was wondering what type of doctor was used for > those of you had a > prosthesis put in. Guest guest
Hi Millie, I am new to the group, but I had a prosthesis put in by an Otologist/Neurotologist about 4 years ago with excellent results. I had moderate hearing loss prior to surgery and regained ALL of my hearing after surgery! Good Luck. beachinthesummer <milliehol@...> wrote: Hi Everyone,I was wondering what type of doctor was used for those of you had a prosthesis put in. Guest guest
I used an otologist and it seems like that's the way to go if you have access to one. Thanks for all the input everyone. Just wanted to chime in to say I'm definitely making progress. When I plug up my good ear I can hear background sounds and even make out a few words when people are speaking. This in itself is a huge change - before my surgery I tested at an 80db loss and couldn't hear most sounds in that ear. I'm only a little more than 2 weeks post-surgery, so I'm hoping there are more gains to come!
Guest guest
How exciting! I hope that all of your hearing returns! I am using an otologist this time, so I hope that it goes better.
