Guest guest
Just reporting in two weeks post op for those wondering how various experiences compare. I feel perfectly fine except for recurring episodes of vertigo; at least it is not all the time like it was initially. For the most part, everything else -- drainage from the ear is on par with what others have reported. I am struggling with what seems to be substantial hearing loss in that ear (other ear already bad), so I'm having to deal with a nearly silent environment (except at home where I can turn the volumes way up) and getting people to understand that I REALLY cannot hear them unless they are right up to my face. Two of the earbones were removed during surgery, and the Dr has not discussed with me yet what solutions I might have. I read here on the list that others with this situation mention " reconstruct " -- exactly what might that be, would this be the same as prosthetics? I know every case is different, but just knowing what others are told helps know what might be coming. thanks
Guest guest
Hi I read here on the list that others with this situation mention "reconstruct" -- exactly what might that be, would this be the same as prosthetics? Yes it does. You may come across the terms torp and porp (standing for Total Ossicular Replacement Prosthesis and Partial etc respectively) which replace the missing bones. Sometimes reconstruction may also include a new eardrum being grafted in. In most cases the surgeon would want to monitor your ear for a while to see that the ear heals properly and remains free from ctoma, fluid build-up or infection. So it's not likely to happen for a least 6 months and probably longer. Phil No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
