Guest guest
Hi Lani, My son's Dr. has told him only surface swimming for now , but he wants to do future surgery to make his ear water safe (I'm not sure if that means diving). Ben has had tubes/ a hole in his eardrums consistently since he was 9 months old (he's 15 now) he swam and dove with custom made ear plugs every summer for years ,but the plugs would occassionaly fall out and water would get in his ears. He developed C-toma at 14, I'm sure the water exposure didn't help. He too misses swimming and diving but for now water is the enemy. How about submarine rides? Guest guest
Lani~I don’t know you’re medicalbackground with c-toma and you’reoperations. But, even if I did, Iwould say that this is something that you have to ask your doctor. Only a doctor would be able to give youadvice on something so important. My son had a c-tomaremoved and implant bones put in and after 6 weeks was allowed to swim. I’m not saying this is the correctthing to do, especially for every case. But, that’s why you have to discuss it with your doctor. Diving deep may put certain otherrestrictions on the scenario than just regular snorkeling/swimming, forinstance. Good luck finding your answer! I am a total free diver! I cant imagine not being able tosnorkle with the turtles...can anyone tell me will I ever be ableto dive? Will I ever be able to snorkle with the fish after thesurgery? Is it the water getting in the ear, or the pressure that i have toworry about>? I am heart broken at the thought of not being able todo the one thing that I honestly love to do...If i could describethe feeling of heaven it would be the way I feel when i amswimming/ snorkling.... can someone answer me please before i have anotherbreakdown! huggz! Guest guest
Hi Lani, I agree with Tara, ask your doctor. My personal experience though, after bi-lateral c-toma and reconstruction...I went snorkeling in Hawaii last month with no problems. The goal is to get your ears healthy and functioning, so if your surgeries are successful, then you should be able to. Granted, I was only snorkeling, not scuba diving. Not sure how that might feel...but I expect if your ear(s) is/are fixed then you should be able to do that. Good luck, Melody Tara Glosenger <stjng@...> wrote: Lani~ I don’t know you’re medical background with c-toma and you’re operations. Guest guest
Hi Lani. I had an earplug molded to my ear after my 2nd removal surgery. I was able to swim and go under water and such using it along with some type of ear drop solution that was oily. (I assume because water and oil don't mix.) The audiologist in my doc's office did the plug. You might ask about one. leilani_sweet2002 <leilani_808@...> wrote: Ok...I already asked the question on can i dive or not...I was answered that I should keep the diving to zero....BUT!!! Guest guest
I am taking my daughter snorkeling next month and the Dr. gave her the go ahead with swimming and such as long as she wears an earplug.....did you have a special type of ear plug? We have used the swimmers plugs which form to the ear but I wonder if there is something better. She has had two sugeries this year and reconstruction set for January so I want to be extra careful. Thank you for help! --- Melody Reilly <melodyreilly@...> wrote: > Hi Lani, > > I agree with Tara, ask your doctor.
