Guest guest
Hi, my child didn't have any of the symptoms, no earaches, drainage or anything other than one time after swimmimg a full feeling in the ear. I was wondering too if that is odd. Good luck. shirleymSuzy <kzanne109@...> wrote: Hello......I'm glad to have found this board!! I am a 48 year old female that was diagnosed yesterday with a cholesteatoma in my left ear!! My ear feels full all the time......and rings...and i have hearing loss in it........however i have never had any discharge of any kind out of it.....I was wondering if anyone else who has been diagnosed with this problem actually had one but didn't have any discharge or infections that are typical with the problem? I'm very nervous and of course probably trying to figure out how to get out of this thing!! I'm tentatively supposed to have surgery the day after thanksgiving, however i am requesting a ct scan since my doctor didn't order one!! Guest guest
Hi Suzy: My symptoms were almost exactly like yours. I had hearing loss and the ringing was louder than usual (I've had tinnitus since I was a kid, so I'm very used to it by now). I never had drainage, and was kind of puzzled when my ENT asked this question. Unfortunately, the only way " out " of this problem is with surgery. I had surgery in February, c-toma removal and reconstruction all in one fell swoop. Everything is fine now, and my hearing improved to the normal range. I'd have to agree with others that the most painful part of the surgery is wearing the " cup " for a day or two afterwards. Personally, I wouldn't put off surgery. I had to put off my surgery for several months due to insurance problems (and once because of a father-daughter dance :-), but I just couldn't wait to get it over with. Guest guest
My son never had any infection or discharge. So it does happen, even if it's not the usual course of things. Bless you!
Guest guest
: Sorry, the tinnitus didn't go away. I didn't expect it to, either, since I've had it in both ears pretty much all my life. But it did go back down to the " normal " level (ie. about the same as the non-c- toma ear). I know tinnitus can be a pain, but you really do get used to it after awhile. It really only bothers me when taking hearing tests, because it's difficult for me to distinguish between the test tone and my tinnitus.
