Guest guest
Hi my daughter is 4 and has been diagnosed with a polyp in her ear canal. She has discharge as well as blood in her ear. She was scheduled for surgery but had a fever so they could not preform the surgery. I am seeking out a second opinion. The other ENT could not tell me what caused this " polyp " or if it would affect her hearing. Needless to say he was not very informative. My question is has anyone ever had a polyp that turned out to be a cholesteatoma??My pediatrician said it looked like it could be one but was not 100% sure. Any thoughts or information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. Deirdre
Guest guest
Hello Deirdre A polyp is a is a round red lump of inflamed skin that bleeds easily. It's usually something that's caused be repeated or chronic ear infection and can be found in the middle ear or the ear canal. Polyps aren't the same as ctoma - they're not as serious and can usually be removed bvia the ear canal. The danger is that an ear that get polyps is also one that can get ctoma. Sometimes if the polyps are large there can be ctoma hidden behind them - it would require a CT scan to be sure. Phil polyps in ear /cholesteatoma?
