He is internationally recognized as the developer of Relationship Development Intervention (RDI), an innovative new program designed to improve the quality of life for individuals with from Autism Spectrum Disorders. RDI has grown at an incredible rate since its formal inception in 2001, with more than 2,000 families participating in RDI around the world. Currently, 33 professionals in the U.S., Canada, and Australia are Certified Consultants in RDI, having completed an intensive training process, additionally: over 100 professionals currently are in certification training. Dr, Gutstein has conducted clinical research and published papers in such diverse areas as women’s adaptive coping with the crisis of breast cancer; effective preparation programs for children undergoing surgery; nursing-led programs to orient parents to Pediatric Intensive Care Units; and outpatient, family network-based alternatives to serious adolescent suicide attempts. For the last 16 years, he has worked to develop a research-based intervention program addressing the core deflects shared by all people on the autism spectrum. The program is called Relationship Development Intervention (RDI). He and his partner and wife Dr. le Sheely, have published three books and numerous articles related to RDI. They travel internationally conducting workshops and training programs. Dr. Gutstein preliminary evaluation study of RDI recently was accepted for publication by the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders (JADD). Dr. Gutstein, received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Case Western Reserve University, interned and did post-doctoral work at Rutgers Medical School. From 1979-1987, Dr. Gutstein was Assistant Profession of Psychology and Pediatrics at Baylor Medical School and the University of Texas Medical School. During this period, he also was Director of Psychology at Texas Children’s Hospital and Director of Research at the Houston Child Guidance Center CRUS & CERTIFICATESCertificates of attendance will be provided. Upon approval by the Indiana Professional Standards Board, Certification Renewal Units (CRU’s) will be available.
