Hi Charla,

I have had a CWD in both ears. My ear canals are bigger than normal but I have never had anyone comment about it. Once the initial healing period was over, I do not keep cotton in my ear at all times. I do use cotton/vaseline while showering. And if I am going to be outdoors in the cold weather for a long period of time, I will use some cotton. The cleanings are not painful for me. I get dizzy more than anything. My left ear is a little more sensitive but it is not very painful. When I had the packing/plug removed, it did not hurt, it just felt like a relief to get it out of there.

Good luck !

Ilona

Hi everyone, I just had the CWD surgery, after having the CWU 3 times, they finally decided on this one. How big will the ear canal be? Do you have to keep cotton in it at all times? How are the cleanings? Do the cleanings hurt? Does it hurt when the dr takes the PLUG out? I am having the plug taken out on Tues and I am kind of scared. What should I expect? Thank you all so much in advance, Charla

Has anyone ever had "self dissolving packing"? This was used on me when I had a tympanoplasty done in August. It took about 2-3 weeks to completely dissolve, but it sure beat having to have the stuff taken out. Maybe it can only be used on tympanoplasty surgeries and not the actual C-toma removal? It has been 9 years since I had my last C-toma removal so I don't remember if I had packing removed or not or if my doc used the dissolving type then too?

Cleaning are not painful, and I took the cotton ball

out couple of weeks or less after surgery.

Initially I was actually quite self conscious about my

enlarged canal. I think my main problem was, I had a

mirror which enabled me to see the full view of my

ear, and so all I did was stare at the hole and feel

terrified. Now I'm over it and I have my hair up a

lot. No one has ever commented on it. I mean even my

husband didn't notice it until I showed it to him 2

months after surgery. Now I can only laugh at myself

:)
