Hi!

I'm new. Great site! Never heard of cholesteatoma until one week

ago. I had noticed over the past feww years my left ear didn't

feel " just right " . I had my GP check it. No problem. Last summer I

was being bothered by what I thought was allergies making my left ear

feel stopped up as though water was in it all the time. I saw an

ENT. He said that he had seen many patients recently with similiar

complaints related to allergies. He told me to pinch my nose and

blow to equalize the pressure. DUH! I had already been doing that.

Next, he told me to pinch my nose and drink water from a glass at the

same time several times daily to help open my collapsed E-tube.

(Difficult to do and work!) He prescribed Flonase. I left

discouraged and wondering what I was going to pay for that kind of

advise. I used the Flonase until January when it caused nosebleeds.

I saw another ENT who checked my hearing and to see if I had fluid

present, and did a RAST test---all OK. He prescribed Allegra D and

Zyrtec, and for me to use the one that worked the best for me. A

little over a week ago I saw the last ENT again and told him that my

left ear still felt stopped up. When he looked this time he saw an

infected area and then looked with a microscope and sucked it out.

He told me that he thought that I had a c-toma and prescribed Cipro

ear drops. I am to have a ct scan Tuesday. I am 50 and can only

recall having one childhood ear infection and one adult ear

infection. I have had no pain. I never have ear wax although since

last summer I have had odorous wax when cleaning my ears. I also

have had what sounds like air coming through my ear drum when I pinch

my nose and blow to equalize the pressure and also at times I hear a

noise in my left ear that sounds like a vibrating sound. According to

other people's symptoms of c-toma on this site mine seems weird. Am

I going crazy!

Rene'
