Dear Kayla, I'm 22 year old college student who has recently been diagnosed with c-toma. I've done alot of research on the disease to prepare me for pre & post operation. My operation has been scheduled for June 1st at Mass General in Boston. I'm extremely nervous about the surgery and would really like to hear your personal experience after your surgery since it was done so recent. How much pain were you in when you woke up from surgery? What pain medicines were you given? I know there is a very small chance of damaging the facial nerve - but how is your face? Is the right side of your tongue experiencing taste discomfort? My doctor said that for a few days I will probably feel imbalances - have you? Are they lasting longer than expect? If you dont mind sharing your experience with me it would be more than helpful. Again, I'm extremely nervous about my surgery - being able to talk to someone who has already experienced it first hand

would not only help me prepare, but comfort me that other people are going through this surgery too. I hope you are feeling well and that the surgery was a success! I really look forward to hearing from you! Best, Ana D.Kayla <kayscatwillow12000@...> wrote: Hi yall. I am scheduled to have a mastoidectomy and removal of a cholesteatoma on the 11th of May. I am a little concerned, but I think I will make it through fine. I just went to my doc today and we scheduled the surgery. Two weeks ago I had a CT and hearing test done. The doc says my nerve is still good in my ear. He didn't go into details of the surgery today, he will talk to me when I go see him for the preop on the 5th. I have a pretty bad infection going on in

there. Every time I see him he has to suction the pus out of my ear. Today it was very painful and he was in there for at least 15 minutes nonstop. On the way home it had already started draining out. This is nothing unusual for me (the draining) it has been doing it for years. I had surgery done 10 years ago, but the cholesteatoma wasn't there then. So pretty much my ear is back to the way it was before the first surgery along with the C-toma. I will be glad to get this done and I pray that this will be the end of it. I will probably have to go back in 6 months and have him rebuild the eardrum and everything. I won't know how bad it is until I wake up from surgery. I don't know if he will have to do a whole clean out and have to have a hearing aid or if he will be able to save any of the hearing bones. I have already had one replaced and now the prosthetic

is out of place. So I have my hands full and I can use all the prayers I can get. Thank you guys, you have helped me out alot reading what you have written. I had no idea what a C-toma really was until I got in here and read what you others have been through. Thank you again. If anyone has any informantion that could help me, expierences, etc. I would appreciate it.~Kayla~Ana L. Dabrowski
