Guest guest
My 5 year old son saw the ENT today. He looked at the CT scans and said the right ear had thickening of the ear drum and the left ear may have a small c-toma forming but it's questionable. I left feeling uncomfortable. He didn't even mention the ear discharge he has been having the past year. I thought the office was going to do a hearing evaluation (I scheduled it when I set up the appointment) but he told me to schedule that closer to our home and to wait two weeks since his left ear started having discharge on Monday. (The ENT is 2 1/2 hours from our house.) I've called my pediatrician, who is always supportive. I'll see what she says. Diane
Guest guest
Hi Diane, Just on 12 months ago, my 19yo son with Downs Syndrome, had a CT scan ?cholesteatoma. The scan came back negative to cholesteatoma, but noticably skin thickening of the ear drum, with underdeveloped hearing bones etc. Our ENT, still wished to operate, at that time Trent did not have private medical insurance - and we were referred to outpatients of our local hospital. At the hospital, we saw our ENT's partner, who is highly regarded within the profession. On examination he did not feel an operation was necessary, as Trent has perforated ear drums which were ventilating the inner ear, also as ear discharge was usually in relation to swimming in public pools. For the past 12 months we have kept Trent's ears dry, only just this week having problems again, after holidaying away with others, who may not have been as particular as me about water in ears. With my story, what I am really suggesting to you is, get a second opinion - do lots of research and ask loads of questions. Maybe have a good think about what may be causing the ear discharge - in our case it is water in the ears. I can assure you, there are a couple of very knowledge guys in this group that can answer most questions - Keep smiling Regards Jan - In cholesteatoma , " dcns4 " <dcns4@y...> wrote: > My 5 year old son saw the ENT today. Guest guest
You might try getting a second opinion from an ENT closer to home (if possible). See if you can get a copy of the CT scan forwarded to the office as well. When my daughter had her first CT scan, I bought copies and took them with me to several ENTs as I looked for a second opinion - this was expensive - $100 - and not covered by insurance. See if your ENT or the radiologist can forward copies for you to another ENT. If you feel uncomfortable, first of all - ask questions of the ENT. Second, if you're still uncomfortable, find another ENT and get a second opinion. -Jeff. ENT didn't agree with radiologists read of CT scan My 5 year old son saw the ENT today.
