Hi Pb, I'm an Aussie and live in Brisbane. I " m a 30yr old married female

mother of six rug rats and just had my 1st mastoidectomy on the R ear

yesterday. All went well I think. I didn't realise how much you really use

your neck muscles! lol. I have a bit of swelling on the neck area and would

really love to blow my nose! My head feels really full of pressure and its

driving me crazy because the kids are driving me crazy and I cant yell at

them Lol! I think they think I'm a real walk over at the moment. Their

fighting and screams are piercing i'll say. Other than that I feel all

right.. Have some nice pain killers doing the trick. O well Off for a lie

down I think and watch a dvd. Be great if I didnt have to have the tv going

so loud all the time. Well I hope I dont have to have 6 surgeries like you,

but it appears people seem to have a few. Best wishes with surgery number

6.

Hi,

We have a 10yr son With a Cholesteatoma. We live in NSW on the Mid

North Coast. We have no surrport here at all. Brice is now under the

Childrens Hospital at Westmead. He will under go his 4th lot of

surgery on the 20th Dec. Not looking forward to that again. At least

we now know we are not the only Aussies going through this sometimes

it has been hell.He hates to blow his nose as well. Our real battle

is scar Tissue he has got no ear canal and they have taken Cartlage

as well.He had packing for almost 6 months[all up] and has been put

under 5 times to change it. At the moment it is not discharging,1st

time in i don't know how long.

We are just going trying to give him a good Xmas.As he was in the

same boat last year but the op was 3 weeks before.

Anyway that's my winge fo the day LOL

Keep in touch as this site is the best we have found.

Hi all, Sharon Here from bris.. i think my last post in aug. well i found

out 3mths after first surgery that i had one in other ear. had surgery

done 2nd march. this one appeared different and had different symptoms.

apparently had been growing in there silently for years before it decided

to pop its head out of the pocket. This one was not nice at all and i had a

lot of mastoid removed and have partial stapes left. Hurt like hell. and

now have retracted pocket back in other ear again... so looks like life

long dramas... so the best thing is ... i am still alive . I hope they dont

continue to come back, but by posting and reading this site, it sure appears

that they do. Well good health to all. Cheers for now. lol its friday and i

need a scotch.lol

love sharon

Hi there, I hope Brice is feeling better. Yes headaches are "normal". Even now after all this time I sometimes feel like a knife is going through my head. Fortunately it doesnt happen quite so much. I think what we have to remember is someone was "inside" our head! (Well your sons) and actually playing around in there! All i can say is time heals. My son is doing ok for now. The humidity doesnt help either of us. I am seriously thinking of relocating back to Perth. A further scan is a good idea. One thing I wish i had done earlier is seek further opinion. Doctors who really understand this disease are few. Well chin up, and take care Audreyhayviv65 <hayviv65@...> wrote: Hi Audrey,Brice is doing ok at the moment. But he is getting headaches alot.we are going to have a CT scan on the 2nd of April I think more for my peace of mind.do you get headaches?and is that normal post cholesteatoma removeal.Wish you were on the east coast it would be great meet someone that could relate to him and us for that matter.i hope your son is doing well. All the best VIV > > Hi Pb, I'm an Aussie and live in

Hi Judy

Just read your post 17640 wow

I know as a mum now you feel and being an aussie I think sometimes

makes it hard because there is no group to help or support us.

So hang in there. Reading the notes on this site have helped me to

learn so much the Doctors have never told us about.

I don't just sit anymore if I have a gut feeling that things aren't

right I do something about. Our GP is also very good he listens to me

more than the ENT does.Thats how we found that Brice had the

cholesteatoma back. So go with your gut he may be an adult but you

are still his Mum

Best of luck

Hi Viv.

Thanks for the feedback. I have found this

site, extremely supporting. It is great to compare

notes, and find that we are the same as everyone else.

Yes now that i know more about this dreadfull

disease/tumour, i will be certainly asking the

specialist a few more questions on our visit on thurs.

Wishing you all the best to with all your dramas,

regards judy

Hi, thats great news on bryce. Fantastic. Hey we are

mums we are allowed to worry. My son shane has his

operation on may 23, so we all have our fingers

crossed till then. They arent to sure what they are

going to do yet. His specialist said its too messy at

the moment , so will have a clean and take it from

there. As his hearing is deterioting, we are now

looking into learning sign language.... regards

judy

Hi,

Thanks viv. Hes having it here in Port Pirie. We

usually have to travel to Adelaide a few hours away,

but the specialist has agreed to operate in our

country hospital. More than likely we will be in

adelaide after for the checkups and packing. Great to

hear bryce is bouncing back, doesnt seem to take long

when they are younger.. Regards Judy
