Guest guest
Hi , Our 7 year old daughter had surgery to remove a cholesteatoma when she was 4 and we were told hers was hereditary. Our DR. said it is very unusual to have the hereditary form of cholesteatoma and the way he could discern it was is because her eardrum was intact despite the ossicular chain being eroded. I hope this helps and best of luck to you and your family. Cheryl This is my first post to the group and I am grateful to have such a wealth of information. Our daughter recently developed an abcess behind the same ear she had surgery on . It has resolved with antibiotics and we will know the results of her cat scan on Monday. We are praying it was a fluke occurence and not the return of a cholesteatoma. Thanks for reading this far and please say a prayer for our daughter. Thank you so much! Guest guest
I think you mean 'congenital' rather than 'hereditary'. Congenital means you are born with C'toma - such as our son, and yes the eardrum appears intact. 'Acquired' occurs as a result of a skin cell getting in behind the eardrum usually as the result of many ear infections. C'toma is not passed down in families.
