The Ohio Department of MR/DD has released an independent study on The Future Roles of Ohio's Developmental Centers. Click here for the full report:

http://odmrdd.state.oh.us/DC_Roles_Report.pdf

The independent consultants went beyond the scope of Developmental Centers and have also recommended that Ohio should, among other things:

1. Assess gubernatorial and legislative support for use of unmatched State dollars. Secure commitment to draft and support appropriations bill(s) for the next session, earmarking funds for expansion of community services.

2. Study the existing State Medicaid plan to determine if its current language requires modifications to expand community services. Modify plan to encompass desired service expansions pursuant to submission for Federal and State approval.

3. Study methodologies to retool the existing county board waiting list system. The existing system should be redesigned to capture information in a uniform fashion that identifies each individual's present level of functioning, requested supports and approximate timeframes for admission to hose services. Identify hardware and software needs and funding strategies.

The following is information regarding the report and the schedule of public forums:

February 8, 2006

On January 31, 2006, the ODMR/DD released the final report from the Incident Management Services. Called the “DC Study,†the group spent over five months interviewing stakeholders and reviewing documentation, and prepared a report which included recommendations for the department to consider in devising a strategic plan for the developmental centers. Although the focus of the report was the role and future for the developmental centers, information and recommendations were included that have potential impact for other areas of the service field – private providers, county boards, and other department divisions. We are holding ten public forums to obtain input and feedback as to the report, as well as how to develop a strategic plan from the report. The report is available on the ODMR/DD website http://odmrdd.state.oh.us/ and you received a copy at the January 31st DC stakeholder meeting.

The [following] provides the dates, times, and locations for each of the ten forums. We are hoping you can attend one of them, and of course look forward to your feedback at future DC Stakeholder Committee meetings.

Members of ODMR/DD leadership will be present to listen to feedback and welcome the opportunity to hear reactions and priorities. We encourage anyone with an interest in not only developmental centers, but also other aspects of the MR/DD service field to attend. Please share this notice with others you know that may be interested.

Sincerely,

D. Snow, Deputy Director
