Hi ,

If you can get the stitches behind your ear wet, I would recommend

lambs wool and vaseline or bacitracin. Cut a small peice (large

enough to fill the canal), then on one side, coat it with the

bacitracin. Place the dry side in your canal. Smooth out the

bacitracin/vaseline so that the lambs wool touches all the areas of

your ear canal.

I took a shower two days after surgery this way. I always wash my

hair by wetting the back first, then turning around an putting my head

slightly down to wet the front. I do the same when rinsing the shampoo.

It's always worked for me. My doc says this is acceptable.

Be careful about washing your hair too soon after surgery. One surgeon told my

son that it is possible for water to seep through the incision behind the ear if

you don't allow enough healing time. The last two surgeries my son has allowed

5-7 days. He uses the vaseline over the cotton ball and then covers that with a

waterproof bandaid (the large size that fits the knee and elbow by Nexcare). It

covers the ear perfectly. He is seven weeks out from surgery and still does

this. Wishing you the best,

Audrey
